And if Gillies and Ortio don't pan out, we will probably need McDonald.

I've seen McDonald play a number of times as I live on PEI. I think you're underrating him by a fair margin. I wouldn't be surprised to see him become our number 1 goalie in a few years. I was surprised to see him go so early in the second round but my guess is the Flames felt he wouldn't be there later.

Personally I like to win on the scoreboard and not with our knuckles.

Ya, Collins is gone. Missed that trying to decipher what's going on with the incredible analysis from the Fan960.

Love it than fans write off picks before they've even played an NHL game. Brain and Brad know full well we have Ortio and Gillies in the goalie system, but clearly they aren't that hot on either player as they felt we needed McDonald. Trust their judgement.
As for Hunter Smith, why the hate from some? A big, pain in the arse type of player. Would like to see him side by side with Gaudreau!

I think I would have preferred Karlsson. That being said, Fan 960 replayed an interview with the Oshawa coach who was really complimentary of Hunter Smith. After a quick search it seems like Hunter Smith looks to top out as a grinder or a fighter.
