Sibsa is a decent bottom pairing guy, but not much else, he came into the league with a bunch of hype and never lived up to it.

Everyone seems to think he is a great 2nd line center. I feel like he is an exceedingly average 2nd line center, that had 2 great seasons.

I feel like Backlund and Bonino are both on the verge of being average 2nd line centers (ie. Ryan Kesler quality players).

On his (Benning) first day in his office, one of the first calls he took came from Kesler. He wanted to meet. And now.

“I just kind of inherited it,” Benning said. “I heard from the outside what was going on. But when you take over a job, you hope for the best.

“That wasn’t going to be the case.”

From there, the Kesler drama hit him like a bag of hammers. Literally every day.

“I talked to (Kesler’s agent) Kurt Overhardt every morning and before I went to bed every night,” Benning said.

“I said to Kurt, when my wife was in Boston with the kids, ‘I only talk to my wife once a day, but I talk to you twice a day.’

“He got a good laugh out of that.

“There was a lot of threats both ways. Kurt would phone and yell and scream at me. I’d yell and scream at him. We’d put it to bed.

“The next we’d wake up and start all over again.

“That’s what happened.

“I wish Ryan all the luck. We want players who want to play for our team.”

Threats? Screaming? Two-a-days.

uh, wow.

And people thought Kesler could come back?

It didn’t take long for Kesler to start getting pummelled.

It should be clear by now the Canucks weren’t happy with his act.

His teammates weren’t either. As has been outlined in the Provies before, the players voted to strip him of his letter.

The leadership group tired of his draining personality and there will be no tears shed about his departure.

As someone put it:

“The players are ecstatic.”

Spec put it another way in his column:

“Here’s the deal: Kesler wasn’t well liked by many of his teammates.”

You feel that Backlund is on the verge of being a Kesler caliber player. While I hope you end up being right, I'd say you are very much a glass half full kind of guy to be thinking that.

I'm still floored by this article. I can't believe this guy was in the running for alot of the GM vacancies leading up to the Vancouver hire.

Not just on the Kesler thing, but some of his other comments have me wondering wth is he thinking.

“We zoned in on those guys,” Benning said. “It was either Dal Colle or Jake.”

"We didn't get our guy, so we settled for our second choice"

“No, didn’t really consider a Russian,”

"We’re going to get back to a meat and potatoes type style of in the trenches, play hard. So, we never gave it much consideration.”

"We don't want Russians cause they play like p@$$#s"

Honestly, I think he excels there.

He's not "the guy" in Anaheim... everyone knows it... and most importantly, Kesler knows it.

He's a 2nd line C. Getzlaf and Perry are "the guys", and Kesler better just back them up every now and again.

He'll be a great depth player for them.

At the moment, he'll likely be lining up with Silfverberg, Cogliano or Maroon. Not exactly a big change from the bought-out Booth, slumping Burrows or 3rd liner Hansen. I think Vancouver has a slight edge on defense but could easily swing either way. Goaltending? Both are question marks.

At least the Duck's ship isn't burning and sinking I guess?
