I realize they had 3 1st round picks last year, but I just can't get my head around how fast this team went from ground floor rebuild to stocked up and making noise.
The emergence of Granlund and Reinhart last year caught the attention of a lot of media. By the time the season came to a close and the Flames were lighting the Oilers up in Edmonton the HNIC crew actually started talking about Flame prospect depth.
Now you add Bennett to it?
Gaudrea explodes, Poirier goes from "who?" to wow!, Granlund and Reinhart have huge AHL seasons, Monahan has an amazing first NHL season when many of us didn't expect him to make the team ... meanwhile a guy like Klimchuk is ignored and fans right of Sven Baertschi????

The big thing being overlooked is that it places Backlund in a very favorable position to excel as a third line center.

Glad that we got Bennett. Glad that our management team didn't try to look smarter than everyone else. Let's not go full oiler and start calling this a championship team until we see them play please. Also glad we didn't move Baertschi.

I remember when he was "the" guy, the brightest spot in one of the worst prospect pools in the league. He's excelled so much though as a support player, hopefully Baertschi follows the same route

Bennett's wheels and grit are such a great complement to Monahan's size and strength. We can tailor our 'look' at center to whoever we go up against. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Bravo!!
