I'm confused, how is trading (what Canuck fans were calling an all-star defenceman) for a second round pick.... Good?

These deals shouldn't have anything to do with 1st overall, FLA has said they want roster players, not just picks.
Either they are clearing cap room for big UFA's or they are blowing it up.
Edit: They could be looking at 2nd overall though?

They'll have to win games 1-0 with that forward group, which is going to be awfully difficult considering Lack is their new #1.
They gonna be bad.

Their roster looked bad before they made these deals.
They are clearly intent on blowing it up. Question is, could they get away with dumping the Sedins on anyone?

Yeah it's beginning to look like Ottawa (once they trade Spezza for prospects) and Vancouver are going all in next season on McDavid and Eichel. Their roster looks almost as bad as the Flames now.

I bet this ends up looking like a steal for Tampa Bay next year

first year he was good, last year he was really bad but had an injured leg and he lost a lot of strength so he wasn't as good in his own zone

Not a big fan of Garrison but he is a much better player than Sibsa. Must be more coming from Van in the way of trades or they are about to back the truck up for Vanek. Max term and $7mil is my guess right now...

And if SJ blows it up too? Maybe playoffs aren't as far away as we think.

using the logic from the other canucks trade thread
only 4 less points than Drew Doughty they are pretty much the same player

Could be just me but does this give them the Flex to Offer Sheet O'Reilly or Johansen?

I would imagine if Florida doesn't trade with Vancouver and Reinhart is sitting there at 4 OA, the Canucks will be offering the 6 OA, 24 OA and possibly the 50 OA to go get Kesler's replacement.

Pretty impressive that they could get rid of that contract actually and still get a 2nd rounder.
Wideman should be able to fetch at least that.

because it seems most people on this board want Reinhart or Bennett
if the order stays the same its likely
1. Ekblad
2. Reinhart or Bennett
3. Drasatl
4. Reinhart or Bennett
If the Canucks move to 1 to take Reinhard, Bennett may go 2, and then the Oilers may take Ekblad 3
leaving Calgary with Drasatl or Ritchie maybe

They already had that but in order to land either of them you'll have to pay more than they're worth and give up the draft picks to boot. Doubt either player gets poached.

Because people are wishful thinking/ hoping that Reinhart will somehow be ours at #4.

Hmm. Think Garrison was alright but it didn't seem like Torts liked him very much. Hope he does great in Tampa

this could also mean in a potential deal with Florida the Panthers want the Canucks to take a contract back
i.e Jovo

Rangers maybe? They have the cap space but it wouldn't leave ton of money to fill out the roster. If Van retained 2M each in salary they could get a deal done.
