What would you see in Calgary if:
Bettman: There's a trade to announce. The Calgary Flames trade the fourth overall and Sean Monahan to the San Jose sharks for Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau

While not being happy, I still think I'd be happier with that than Ritchie.

I'm sure this was posted in one of the other threads, but this kind of speculation isn't fair... gets me far too excited.
Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes 5m
If Draisaitl goes 1st, an idea becoming less and less far-fetched, and if Oilers content with young d-men in their system, Ekblad to Flames?

If that's the case, I think they trade the pick.
If Bennett were still available (which he would be in your scenario), Toronto would pay heavily to move up. Edmonton could slide down and maybe look at Fleury or something like that.
Phaneuf + 8th for 3rd + Gagner?

I think a more likely scenario for Ekblad falling to Calgary is Florida trading the #1, say to Van who takes Reinhart. Then Buf and Edm take Bennett and Draisaitl and Ekblad fans go hog wild!

These rumblings have come up lately ... but I just couldn't see it happening. The Oilers might think their D pool is better than it is, but they can't be that delusional right?

I've been saying it again and again: this would still be a great selection at 4th. For pure skill, he is the best player available, and a Nylander / Gaudreau tandem has all the potential to terrify opposing defenses for a long time.
Lots of players in this draft with "tools". Nylander is simply really f***king good at hockey.

The only guy they are passing on Ekblad for is Draisaitl IMO. So if Draisaitl goes first then I think they just take Ekblad.
It would have to be something like
1. Bennett
2. Reinhart
3. Draisaitl
For Ekblad to fall to us

Their pool actually is very good... but Ekblad is better than all of them. No way they pass on him at 3.

Is it? ... I see two players who are likely to play in the NHL and they're both going to be full time regulars next year, likely low pairing potential, maybe second for Marincin. And then Darnell Nurse, who should easily be top 4.
I wouldn't call that very good.

Relative to their center prospect depth it is.

If people are saying Sam Reinhart may be ready to step into the Flames roster next year, what about Max? surely Sam is not better than his older brother who has had significant AHL experience?

I actually think the Oilers would pass up on Ekblad. Their D prospects are much more better than ours and are still looking for that #2 center in this draft, NHL ready or not. I think Draisaitl is a lock already. Ekblad will be ours imo if he doesn't go #1.

The Oilers defensive prospect pool only gets play because the rest of their prospects are total crap. Nurse is good but besides that it's the normal what ifs and maybes that every other team has.
The fact it gets any talk is more due to the never ending Oiler hype machine.
