They did in 2002 so unless something has changed, Canada would qualify.

There are 12 venues being used for this year's, so I wouldn't expect any less for 2022. There were 9 for U.S. '94 I guess, but I think we'd see an expansion. I doubt. For the U.S last time you had:
Pasadena
Detroit
Stanford
New York (East Rutherford)
Orlando
Chicago
Dallas
Boston
Washington, DC
Of those I would bet they keep games in New York, Dallas, Chicago, Boston, DC, and Pasadena. NY, Dallas, Boston, and DC all have new and top of the line NFL stadiums (especially Dallas). They likely keep the game in Pasadena as well (Rose Bowl), but I could see them scrapping Detroit and Orlando. Move Detroit's game to Toronto, and then start adding games where there's a huge soccer base or new/nice fields. Some candidates for that are going to be Houston, San Francisco, and Minnesota. I think what hurts Vancouver's chances is that there will likely be a game in Seattle, as the fanbase there is bigger and Century Link and Safeco are both wayyyy nicer than BC Place.

Poland/Ukraine also both auto-qualified for Euro 2012.

edit: yes, it appears all hosts automatically qualify, even on a double bid. Sweet!

Not only do they both get in - they're both seeded for the draw!

hopefully it stops the friggin' exodus of all our players and forces the CSA to get their #### together.

Seattle isn't getting a game in the 2016 copa america though, and the USMNT barely plays there (which both are crazy, it's arguably their best market)
I think its a better chance of Vancouver taking away from Seattle than vice versa

I believe in the Jays.

They'd be crazy not to use Vancouver if Canada were a host. It's a beautiful venue, a beautiful location, a great surrounding area, and will easily be filled with fans.

The thing is travel times isn't it? Huge geographical gaps between host cities? How would they organize this.

I've seen this posted a couple times. Are any of these sources at all credible? I haven't seen anything on more mainstream sites.

Games are like a week apart and we have planes. I don't see what the issue is between a 4 hour flight and a 6 hour flight

This would be amazing.
I'm confident Toronto and Vancouver would for sure be a part of it. Anything more then that would surprise me though.

Plus diving is already built into the sports fabric of that city.....Suarez would likely feel at home.

No love for the crumbling Olympic stadium?
I'd bet Montreal would be equal in opportunity to Vancouver

They close the entire upper section of BC Place to create a better atmosphere and reflect ticket sales.
The entire stadium being opened to 55K for a World Cup match would be unbelievable.
It's also downtown, accessible to all the major hotels and public transit and a safe area of town, so it would be an ideal place.

I just think they would want to spread it out a little so locals could go on either side of the country. More to do with that, then anything else.

That and Montreal will have (if they don't tear it down) a decrepit 50 year old stadium.
Not something we want to showcase to the world.

I wonder if it's because the Seahawks refuse to remove the turf and the Mariners of course will still be playing.
FWIW, these are the stadiums being used for the Copa:
Quote:
Rose Bowl 91,000 Pasadena, California (Los Angeles) Stanford Stadium 50,000 Palo Alto, California (San Jose) MetLife Stadium 83,000 East Rutherford, New Jersey (New York) RFK Memorial Stadium 60,000 Washington, D.C. NRG Stadium 71,000 Houston, Texas Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium 70,000 Orlando, Florida Sun Life Stadium 75,000 Miami Gardens, Florida (Miami)
|
I'd be shocked if Stanford is still there once the 49ers get their new park built. And I'd also be shocked if Jerry Jones doesn't lobby for the final to be played at his playground.

I think Vancouver/Seattle would be a bit of a longer shot. The advantage Montreal has is you can keep multiple venues closer together, which is beneficial to fans travelling to see games (more trains and busses and short flights rather than a cross country flight), and to the teams in the tournament. Realistically you can put 7 venues from Chicago to New York in 7 of the 10 biggest cities in North America (Chicago, Philly, New York, Boston, Toronto, Montreal, Washington), with no more than a 90 minute flight between all locations. Throw in the certainty that Los Angeles and Jerry World will be venues, plus San Francisco (or Santa Clara now), and you just wonder where Vancouver or Seattle fits in.

It'd be cool to see a 6-6 split between the West and the East, but with Dallas, Houston, and Chicago in the mix, you'll probably see 5 East, 3 Central/South, and 4 West. Put two of those four in California and two in Vancouver/Seattle. I suppose Eugene could be a darkhorse in there as well.
