Gaborik is better than Cammy, but not significantly like the poster alluded that I responed to. Marginally better IMO is what I was getting at.
How about not a wide gap like this:

Since the lockout (last 9 NHL regular seasons):

Gaborik has 496 points.
Cammalleri has 479 points.
(Cammy has played nearly 100 more games, but who cares)

In Playoffs
Gaborik has played 62 games and recorded 40 points
Cammalleri has played 32 games and recorded 32 points.

Not statistically different numbers, therefore not statistically different players either.

(why I added this up drunk is beyond me - it was hard lol)

Gaborik is a better player, and has been near elite status for much of his career. His numbers would be higher had he not played in Minnesota for eight seasons. Meanwhile Cammalleri has never really been seen as an elite player (aside from maybe a two week stretch with the Canadiens). His best numbers were when he played with Iginla, and underperformed for parts of his career. Meanwhile Gaborik has had a few great years, aside from his poor stretch in Columbus (where many elite players have underperformed as well). Don't confuse the two, the numbers don't say everything in this situation.

Oh and I love how Gaborik scoring more points in 100 less games is brushed off as nothing. Gaborik almost averages a point-per-game (.963), while Cammalleri averages .785, that's pretty substantial if you ask me. Gaborik is also better defensively, and surprisingly seems to add a decent amount of grit as well. If you take away that half-season in Columbus it's pretty telling how superior Gaborik is to Cammalleri. Heck Gaborik could be Hall of Fame bound one day if he averages a decent pace for those seven seasons.

Habs fans also spewed out garbage like this back in the day saying, "well if Carbonneau wasn't on the Habs being a checking centre, he'd be a 50 goal scorer on another team". Gaborik is what he is and I won't give him any more or any less credit for his stats playing in Minnesota. Maybe if Gaborik wasn't in Minnesota, his game never matures and he ends up back in Europe as a nobody. Too much speculation.

Yeah because it's so easy to put up big numbers when you're playing next to the Jim Dowd's, Wes Walz's, and Scott Pellerin's of the world. His numbers climbed substantially whenever he played with half-decent players. As bad as Iginla may have had it, Gaborik actually played with far inferior talent in Minnesota. Then he gets a few weeks with Kopitar and his production exploded. Not surprising in the least to me.

Of course he is elite, and also often injured. So sure, you can say anyone would pick a healthy Gaborik over a healthy Cammalleri every time. But the end result is the same production as Cammalleri - nine seasons says it is.

Your argument reminds me of an Oiler fan buddy who was justifying Horcoff's ridicules contract with the Oil back in the day. He said Horcoff was basically a point a game guy over five years. Which he was.
Only problem was Horcoff averaged 55 games played and 50 points through that span.
So if you want to justify, you say he is a point a game guy.
In reality, he is a 50 point player.
We can manipulate the numbers to suggest or justify any number of things, but in the end they speak for themselves.

Difference is the Kings got to see Gabby perform in the playoffs and how good a fit he was with the team. They knew what they were getting and felt comfortable offering 7 years.

Teams looking to sign Cammi don't have the same luxury (test drive) the Kings had and will have no clue as how Cammi might fit with thier team. My point is will other GM's be willing to risk 7 years on Cammi? I doubt it and my guess offers would be in the max of 5 years or maybe less.

Gaborik is not often injured, and has played more games than Cammalleri in the last few years. One year of injuries in five shouldn't be much of a concern. Meanwhile Cammalleri has missed good chunks of the season in every year recently (except for the lockout). So no, you're completely wrong, this isn't like Horcoff at all. He plays more games than Cammalleri and almost averages a PPG. He's far superior than Cammalleri, and anyone who isn't a complete homer should realize that.

Still wish we got something/anything for him at the trade deadline.

Not sure I completely buy the concept of getting whatever you can in a trade today affects what value you can garner in a trade tomorrow.

Plenty of Habs fans where I grew up and I heard it quite a bit so your statement is false. I also heard it being discussed a few years ago in a sports network, I couldn't be bothered to try and remember who or when.

I wouldn't. For the most part his play was poor last year . He turned it up at the end.

Treliving has said he had no concerns to reaching the floor, but if you are going to overspend to get someone in, then you would hope it would be a guy like Cammy.

Tough to know exactly, but kinda looks like they played chicken a little too long if they really did intend to sign him.

Seeing some differing accounts. To be clear: Mike Cammalleri will NOT return to CGY. He'll go UFA. #SigningSeason
