Don't know much about Johnston - but a rookie head coach getting thrown into the fire on a veteran laden team sounds like a similar setup that Playfair had.

It'll be interesting to see if he runs the team or the team runs him.

Yep. Rookie head coach on a team that has serious compete issues. Nothing going to go wrong here.

You just said that without ever watching the Portland Winterhawks play or even look at their team stats right? The Winterhawks have been very successful under Johnston and there's been a parade of prospects including defensemen that developed under Johnston who required very little AHL time to crack the NHL. Our very own Tyler Wotherspoon developed under Johnston and he did not look out of place defensively as a Flame. The only that might be missing on Johnston's resume is AHL success. Otherwise, this is a quality coach who deserves a shot at becoming an NHL headcoach.
