I used olive oil for years. Switched to grapeseed oil recently and wow does that work a lot better.

I've been doing this for years and have never had a problem...so I guess a basic stove at 7 or 8 for the pan to get hot for 2 minutes doesn't cause this to happen.

You're doing the steak wrong in the oven then. When in a pinch, put some butter or oil in a pan and get it hot. Throw in some garlic and fresh herbs (if you have any) and then sear the steak on all sides, if that doesn't cook it to your desired temp throw it in the oven at 350 until it's done the way you want.
I've cooked steak in the oven before, but bbq is my weapon of choice. Everything is just better. Looks better, smells better, tastes better. I seared it with a cast iron skillet, olive oil and tossed it in like I have done before, but to me it's just not the same.

They grill, yes. I only mentioned them as seem to be able to prodcue a good sear without any oil and on a grill.

The grill itself would be oiled/seasoned.

It's a matter of convenience. It's not really feasible to light up the BBQ for just a couple of steaks.

.. and what's with people not signalling at stop lights, and then just signal as they turn?

I was in the right lane on 17th, waiting to turn right onto SB Macleod, behind this guy who wasn't signalling. I assumed he was going to go straight through since he had several very good opportunities to turn right. Then the light turns green, he signals and turns right.

I don't get it. It's not as if you just figure you'd turn right on a whim there.

You know what really grills my gears?

When people don't let their steak (or any other meat) rest properly after cooking.

I'm not sure why the lockout was such hard concept to grasp for some people. It doesn't matter what crazy contracts are given going forward, it doesn't change the size of the pie for total salaries.
fotze always has good ideas with how to deal with things on CP, so he could probably come up with something better, but one idea I had that, just like fotze's, would never be approved by the mods;

Is to have a thread in the help forum that keeps track of all the things that are overused and/or stupid on CP, and there would be like 50 of us subscribed to the thread. So you make your list in there, aka

truculence
airdire to downtown
why did we have the lockout?
bettman hates Canada
Shouldn't have to move out of the left lane
better weather in Windsor
my draft order is better than NHL scouts
thinks Burke is GM, too stupid to remember we hired Brad
Oilers are good

etc

When one of those gets posted, the 50 people subscribed get alerts on their phones, and then we go in and just destroy the person, so he comes back in and just can't believe what he's seeing.

He's so shellshocked he just has to ask what the hell even happened. Then we direct him to the help forum thread and he's all like "Oh geez, okay I get it now, I'll review the list and refrain from saying the stupid things. Thanks guys".

I'll fire up the bbq to grill a single hotdog. Does that make me weird?

Dudes who fly wearing sweatpants and flip-flops. I'm not saying you have to dress like Peter12 when you travel, but can we at least have some self-respect with how we dress? We're trying to have a society here.

I actually think sweat pants should be illegal to wear in public.

Depends partially on the flight duration. I am all about dressing nicely, but if faced with a long flight I would err on the side of comfort.

Not as weird as eating a single hot dog does.
