Probably means that if they want 3-5 year deals people won't come near them, but if they seem willing to take a 1 year deal, suitors may show up.

I took it to mean that they won't be the first on anybodies list (have to be patient) but if they are willing to sign one year, cheap, show me type contracts some teams will be interested.

That makes sense. I took it as if they sign 1 year deals they might get some sort of bad attention

Guys you can't offer more than 7 years to UFAs from other teams.

To begin with, Horton is a horrible example as he isn't the same type of player as Clowe/Clarkson (also, 1st line vs 3rd line).
I will grant that Clarkson/Clowe are similar players, but the reason the Toronto deal was so bad was it was more money and a 2 year longer term.
Leafs made a really bad deal... and that has got to be the primary reason another 3rd liner on the same team is asking for further insanity.
Yes - Leaf's fault.

I took it to mean that their phone won't be ringing off the hook with offers to sign them for multiple years but if they signal a willingness to take a one year deal they'll get some attention that they otherwise wouldn't. But yes that was a poorly worded tweet.

Ah hell, I really would've liked Fayne as Butler's replacement.

Not high on that term but at the right price I hope the Flames are one of those 6-7 teams.

I guess the Oilers figure on signing every bottom pairing D available and hoping the results will take care of themselves.
A perfectly no good plan for a no good team.

I am assuming nailing his sister-in-law has cost Brodeur incredible money, so he is hanging on like grim death for every bit of cash he can get, much like Jagr (bankruptcy), the difference being that Jagr is still a decent player...

Let's look at contract life and performance.
Horton: Top 2 winger with injury history, 29 years old, 50-60pt player. $5.3/7 ($37.1 Million)
Clowe: Comparable to Clarkson. Gritty 3rd liner that can play in top 6. 31 years old. 20-40 pt player (ie inconsistent point-wise). $4.85/5 ($24.25 Million)
Clarkson: 3rd liner that can be pushed to top 6. 20-40 pts (only hit 30+ twice). Terrible season points wise with only 11. $5.25/7 ($36.75 Million)
So over the life of the contracts the Leafs are paying $350,000 less for Clarkson, and $5000 less/year, than the BJs are paying for Horton, a legitimate albeit injury-prone top-line forward. And they are paying him $400,000 MORE per season and for 2 more years than the Devils are paying for Clowe. That adds up to a $12.5 million dollar difference and an extra 2 years for someone who is almost the exact same player. ***
*** Disclaimer I am only using average salaries and not yearly ones as I am at work and that is too much effort. Main point is that contract is terrible. Clowe's is bad, but 2 years shorter and a lot less dough. Horton is actually a good hockey player when he's cleared to play.
So yeah.... the Leafs screwed the pooch there. Big time.

Definitely a guy I would like to see in Calgary. Played shutdown role in NJ, and played it well - but the Devils high possession team anyway. Right handed shot. Would prefer to not see this guy in Edmonton

Whoops. I forgot there were two rumor threads now.
More Fayne:
“@TSNRyanRishaug: Maple Leafs not among the teams set to talk with Fayne camp as of right now, though lots of time still.”
