Kind of crazy how Dal Colle gets so little love as he's rarely ever discussed as an option. This is an excerpt from a Corey Pronman ESPN article where scouts voted on the following criteria. Dal Colle seems to be good at practically everything;

Not on top 10 skater or physical play though. That could have some teams (including the Flames) staying away.

If we're not picking one of the top 4, you would think he'd be the obvious choice (he would certainly be my choice).
He reminds me a bit of what Galchenyuk is becoming now as a winger with Montreal. I don't think that's a bad pick at 4.

I am hoping that the Flames can steal that pest Claude Lemeiux's son as their 2nd round pick. Anyone know what rank he is on several scouting report?

Most have him ranked around late 1st to mid 2nd round.

Not even close. I watched both play junior and Galchenyuk is way ahead of MDC talent wise. I said before that draft that Galchenyuk is the best player available. MDC has a better wrister, that is it.

Dal Colle is the Pavel Brendl of this draft. Soft and cherry picks. If he falls to Vancouver, he'll be a great fit.

I think he will be a player unlike Brendl but I don't think he will be anything special. He won't be able to just lay in the weeds untouched in the NHL but that wrister should still allow him to net 20 goals every year. He just won't be a big time player but will be a nice option for someone on the PP. Just not us, we have bigger fish to fry.

It’s entirely possible — maybe even closer to probable — that the most naturally gifted player available will not be selected in the first 30 picks. According to sources, numerous NHL teams have Ho-Sang on their Do Not Draft List.
And only 18 of 30 teams chose to interview him at the recent NHL Combine — and many came away stunned and disappointed.
|
Quote:
I asked a chief scout with a late pick in the first round whether he would select Ho-Sang if he was available, and without hesitating, he answered no.
When I asked why, he said there are certain criteria his organization values, “and if I picked him, my scouts would all revolt. He doesn’t fit what we’re looking for.”

It's weak in the fact there is no consensus picks or sure-fire franchise players. The top 4 is considered relatively even and undecided, so it would make more sense to keep the pick and take who is available at 4.
That said, if it only takes a 2nd round pick to ensure they get the guy they want, by all means make the deal.

Using that logic there should be a lot more players with attitude issues.

There's tons. Many of them grow up. Not every kid entering pro hockey is a "good guy".

Who knows how the interviews went but if he's turning off teams like that there's likely something to it.

I hear ya. But there's so much risk involved with any pick over a range of issues that when you have a kid who has serious raw talent and can skate as well, an attitude can be changed. Ability can not.
