So, are you honestly suggesting that part of the reason that he does this is because he is Uruguayan and is under immense pressure, (unlike any other) due to his nationality?

Yes part or, not all of. Uruguayans are the little guys who always want to prove that they belong. Here is a small country that have won 2 world cups and are sandwiched between two huge countries. Uruguayans will be the first to tell you they're Uruguayan, not those Brazillian and/or Argentinian #######s. In soccer this magnifies it cause Brazil and Argentina are soccer giants and Uruguay were once good but are now going into the wilderness.
So for someone like Suarez, this just make it worse. He wants to be seen as better than Neymar or Messi. Little brother syndrome. Especially with the World Cup in South America this time. Uruguay are desperate to do well. Today's match was life and death for them.

Cantona's ban was probably totally worth it.

As an England fan, I take solace in Italy and Spain also busting in the group stage.

So at the half Greece up 1-0 on Cote D'Ivoire & Japan vs Colombia tied 1-1. Interesting...

And it should be 2-0 Greece... earlier chance missed going in by about 4 inches.
I'm obviously watching Greece, is anyone watching the Japan game? Is it really as one sided as it appears from the halftime stats? Says shots 13-3, on goal 8-1, possession 62% all in favour of Japan. Colombia didn't even show up? Need a Japanese loss, guys!

with Greece ahead the Colombians don't care anymore, guaranteed 1st place. This could be to Japan's benefit!

Go Japan! Hopefully Greece and Ivory Coast don't make it. Japan deserves better in this tournament.

I can see Blatter claiming that since FIFA doesn't penalize club football, he can't cite the previous incidents as precedent. This would then be a first incident and give him maybe one game. Far fetched? That wouldn't even crack Sepp's top ten of outrageous decisions. Blatter would love to bring him back ASAP

I'm not watching the game but The Guardian minute-by-minute account said just before the Japanese goal:
Quote:
Japan, as expected before the match, are dominating possession but, as expected before the match, don't look particularly threatening with it.
