You can't teach DNA metamorphosis. You have to draft it.

The kid is just slick. Honestly the only player I have seen with that type of puck skills and type of play is Patrick Kane.
If the Flames develop this kid right, hes going to be arguably a franchise player for the Flames. The Flames just need a top end finisher to play with him.

^^^^^I was thinking the same thing.
Having the power to patiently hold onto the puck all the while having the power to make people look foolish fearing what your going to do because your so dangerous......shoot....pass.....score .....assist??
I have a new man crush.

Monahan can finish the puck. I just think we need another finisher alongside Johnny and Sean. I have high hopes for Colborne, especially moving him to the RW. We'll see what happens. For the first bit of the season, I would give those three guys the third line minutes, and they'll probably prove that they can play 2nd line minutes.

After watching that I can't see how he's not in the starting line-up on opening day.

Yeah, despite what Burke and Treliving say, I have a feeling the kid will keep doing his magic in the preseason and make it impossible to send him down.

That's exactly what I think as well.. They are doing the lower our expectations thing so we can be "shocked" when he makes the team etc..
Johnny's done it at every level, I don't see him letting up at the final stage.

What got me the most in that video was the looks on the faces of his team USA linemates after they had just scored on a sick feed from the kid. Disbelief, and amazement. Who is this kid?

The Matt Donovan goal where Johnny zips it cross-crease through two defender's right along the goal line. When it zooms on his face after he's thinking "where the hell did that puck even come from?".

Burke says he's miniscule and will have to have an outstanding camp and would be good for him to start in the AHL.
...he also said Colborne has the ceiling of David Steckel, so we all know how Burke rolls.

Honestly, if Ferland can have a good camp, I would like to see him playing the opposite side of Gaudreau.
An eventual line of Ferland-Monahan-Gaudreau has some potential to be seriously disgusting.
But if they both start in the AHL (Ferland will for certain) I would like to see Granlund start between those 2. If it doesn't work, you go with Arnold.
Edit: add to that, our RW depth isn't as bad as some suggest, Gaudreau and Poirier as our 1-2 punch in 2-3 years could be disgusting!

I liked how AC opened that video with a really nice defensive backcheck from Johnny.

Yeah, he'd be perfect on a line with Monahan and Gaudreau. That line would be ridiculous.

No one's going to call Gaudreau a sparkplug, but make no mistake, this kid hates losing. In the end of the third there's no one you'd rather have try to get that game winner for you than Johnny. Just watch his interview after BC got eliminated. Johnny might not be traditionally 'in your face' gritty, but he's got tons of heart in him. He's a total winner.

Seriously doubt it. Johnny is a nice kid with lots of skill, but he is no Theo, probably for the best.
