Am I reading that right? He makes $13 million for his first four seasons of the contract as a signing bonus, $8 million for the two seasons after that. In addition to his $12-14 million actual salary?

So $27 million a season for four seasons?!!

Ugh. that one haunts me as a Habs fan. Sather has sign a bunch of the worst deals in the history of the game. But he gets big props for robbing Gainey in that deal. Awful.

Yup the whole idea was to try break a cash poor team in Nashville by making them pay Weber a huge amount in a short period of time so they would have trouble matching the offer sheet.

Sort of.

Salary on Capgeek includes all compensation. So for example, in 2012-13 to 2015-16 he receives a cheque for $13 million at the start of every season (July 1) then $1 million divided into paycheques (two weeks?) for the rest of the season, for a total of $14 million a season. So he makes $80 million over the first 6 seasons, and $30 million over the final 8.

Philly structured it like that in their offer sheet as they believed the Predators wouldn't be able to afford the signing bonuses, which must be paid regardless of lockouts, rollbacks or buyouts. Also, as the offer sheet was in mid-July, 2012, the Predators paid him $27 million in the first calendar year:
Mid-July, 2012: $13 million
Season salary: $1 million
July 1, 2013: $13 million
