Clarification: EDM has window in which it's permissible to negotiate with CBJ pending UFA Nikita Nikitin, but no trade has yet been made.

Bottom line: EDM is, for a specified time, able to make a pitch to Nikitin. If a contract can be worked out, EDM and CBJ can conclude trade.

It looks like the Blue Jackets have given the Oilers a negotiating window to talk to Nikitin with the understanding the Oilers will give up an asset if the Oilers can get Nikitin to agree to a deal

But it is only a matter of time before Nikitin agrees to sign his newly minted 6 x 6, and CBJ makes the deal to move him.
