Yeah, England is more like the Leafs. Havent done anything since the 60s, yet they are all everyone talks about.

Yeah, it's totally bizarre that a country heavily settled by English ex-pats would be primarily interested in the English national team.

Lots of Portuguese, Italian, Croatian etc expats here too. I think it has more to do with the popularity of the EPL and the recognizable players.

I don't see Japan or Greece winning their next games. I'm holding on to hope that Japan pulls off an upset over Colombia, but that's not likely to happen. I predict 2-0 Colombia, and 2-1 Ivory Coast over Greece.
Group D is still very much wide open (except for England, they blew it badly).

I think the 35% of Canadians who identify their 'ethnic origin' as English is the biggest factor
much higher than 4% who identify as Italian (Croatian and Portuguese were both lower than 2%)

You're suggesting those two goals today were poor form from the goaltender? Maybe he could have had the first one, but it was a header going the opposite direction he was travelling. The second? That was a rocket.

Where do you get that figure from? Also does it come from a single or combined response? Either way, I reckon your figure is too high for English identification and waaaaaaay to low for Italian identification.
But I guess it doesn't really matter because England suck big time.

I think the 1st was tougher, the 2nd was a great shot bus his position was bad
the 1st italian goal was iffy, the 2nd he had no chance on

2001 census so it's a little old, but I can't see much of a huge change
question of
"refers to the ethnic or cultural group(s) to which the respondent's ancestors belong"

The only way he was stopping that second goal, from that player, who was that alone, was pure luck.

Most of those are 4th or 5th generation Canadians though. But looking at the permanent resident stats it looks like the UK is by far the largest, so point conceded. Still annoying though. Much like Leaf talk.
I don't even like England and I can still probably name most of their starting 11 from every Euro or WC since 96.
