Just IMHO not a lot of foresight when closing roads to communities that had access for over 15 years - notwithstanding what was always on the plans once LRT & Stoney were going to be built.
Since you mentioned Royal Oak, I assume you also mean Rocky Ridge Road, which is referring to the bolded portion of your post? High speed freeways are never going to mix with master planned community full of circuitous routes designed to give everyone their own "private" street life. The developer needed to take the future network into consideration rather than what was currently available (and what they knew would disappear eventually) and provide better routing in and out of the community.

What GMG is when people cancel last minute on plans. Drives me batty. First I took the day off of work to go barrel racing (took it off two weeks ago) and everything within a 2.5 hour drive is cancelled or rained out and then someone cancels last minute. Never thought I'd say this but I'd rather be at work!

I'm pretty sure they caused an accident on Tuesday evening. Southbound Deerfoot at the Southland Drive overpass. They had the massive abortion banner stretching across the road and right under it there was a 4 car pile-up on the right hand shoulder of the road. I'm not sure if it's legal what they're doing but it should be illegal as I can almost guarantee it caused that accident and the resulting miles long cluterfata on Southbound Deerfoot.

I was right behind them on the Southland overpass at the time. No way to confirm that's how the accident happened but I'd be willing to bet on it. They just sat there looking smug.

Yeah I was just thinking that. I remember some old guy a few years ago got a stunting ticket for gesturing to drivers that a speed trap was ahead.

I would doubt the banner is the cause, we have daily accidents one of the major roads. So I would bet on coincidence and Calgary drivers inability to merge.

What they are doing is legal. It falls under the right to peaceful protest. That drivers are distracted and crash into other things is actually the drivers fault, as the driver of a vehicle is supposed to be in care and control of his vehicle at all times.

As I mentioned elsewhere (I wrote up a pretty comprehensive post on the legality of their tactics) you could have a parade of people you consider most gorgeous walking naked up the side of the road, and if you hit someone while looking at them, the fault is yours, not theirs.

Gesturing how? Sounds like, in the context of stunting, that he was distracting drivers, either with a sign or flashing his beams.

So? His point wasn't that that ticket wasn't justified, he was wondering why the police would ticket that but allow this group to actively distract drivers on the side of the road.

EDIT: Can someone quote this so old TrummyMcputflameswinonignore can see this?

TBQH I built close to the main exit leaving RO knowing RRR was going to be closed eventually - anyhow it doesn't mean knowing something is going to happen doesn't mean it wasn't planned bad in first place.
Any community with less than 2 true exit routes is not planned well IMO. Eg close by are Valley ridge and crestmont I would not have even considered knowing that one bad weather event and whole community is messed up. Just my 2 cents.

Do you understand the difference between "legal" and "Ok"?

They probably could charge those people with distracting drivers if they wanted to. However, if the police tried to enforce that by ticketing them and making them leave, no doubt they'd welcome the chance to resist arrest and garner more attention to their cause. And there's no guarantee a sympathetic judge wouldn't let them off, so I think they are correct in finding other things to do.

I think regardless of where you stand on the whole abortion issue, you'd have to be an idiot to think it's acceptable for a banner of horrific disgusting pictures of aborted fetuses to be hanging over an overpass of a public highway that serves literally thousands of people of all ages pretty much all day.

Would it be cool if I just hung a poster of hardcore porn? Just pure gangbang hardest of hardcore crazy ass porn? Boom, here ya go Calgary.

That would violate the obscenity laws, and get you arrested.
