As far as I understand you can change your mind all the way up until the player is off the field.

Feel bad for Australia if this result holds.

bah i was away missed parts of this match.

anyways that's a penalty, your arms/hands can't block space.

EDIT: oh and it's always been 2 yellow cards and you're out. It used to suck even more cause they never cleared cards after the group stage. Now they clear cards after group stage and quarterfinals.

England fans remember Gascoigne in 90. He got a yellow card in the 2nd game against Holland and carried it all the way to the semifinal where he got another one and would have missed the final. Crazy.

Indeed.

I can understand, but really, Australia had every chance in this match, but they cant ship 3 goals and expect a result. They really needed to clamp down and end this game when they had it at 2-1.

They earned 2-1, after that they were always going to be in trouble.

The better team is winning. I get that Australia had a lead, but that doesn't give you a win of you don't hold it

I agree, I'm not sure that came off in my post. What I meant to say is that Australia should have clamped down defensively once they had the lead but they didnt.

They got the 2-1 lead and then tried to keep going toe-to-toe with the Dutch, which is a fight they likely cant win. They never changed their tactics after getting the lead which is crazy against a team like Holland.

Sorry, I'm trying to use all 3 terms in every post about the Netherlands.

Haha. And I was agreeing with you in reference to the other poster who said they felt sorry for Australia. It's not really like Australia had the game. They were up by a penalty with 40 minutes left against a superior team. I could understand if there was 10 minutes left or something

I think their only chance was trying to keep Netherlands off the ball. There was too much time left on the clock to just clamp down. Plus they were really close to that third goal.

Yeah, the penalty was a godsend and they should have taken it and held on tight with both hands, but they continued to play open which, as I said before, is crazy, and the Netherlands punished them for it.

Holland must the the mystical, magical land of crazy hats. Where do the Dutch find these things?

I missed most of the game (caught the last 15 or so... darn work) so what did van Persie do to get two yellows?

Only one. He had a yellow last game against Spain and got another today so hes suspended against Chile.

Doesnt matter too much, the Dutch are through, now its a matter of the position of the Netherlands.

Holland.

Dutch would need an epic collapse to not make it through now. Spain has to win out and they have to lose something like 9-1 to Chile.

@KuperSimon Holland poor but won because they were luckier+had the better forwards. Dutch defenders as shaky as feared pre-WCup. And where was Sneijder?

Thought this was about right although the Aussies got a lucky penalty call. Sneijder was invisable and ive not seen the Dutch give away the ball so much even when they had time on the ball although the Socceroos pressed well at times which caused more turnovers.

Chile should be able to expose the Dutch defense.

If Chile press high like the Australians did at times I totally agree with this. De Jong is going to have to play deeper against Chile. Im thinking Kuyt gets a game for RVP against Chile as he has the work rate and Huntelaar is pretty much just a target man these days.

I can't feel bad for the underdog who held the lead then conceded a weak game winning goal?

I think based on their play, they deserved the point. But they couldn't hold the lead or hold the score at 2-2.

Good god...

From a brilliant second half on friday, to the worst performance of all teams for 65+ minutes today.
The last 25 minutes where avarage at best.
No concentration, slow, not accurate... weak. Very weak.

The real quality of this team should be somewhere in the middle from the Spain game and this game. Average at best.

Australia deserved at least a point and for the first hour they where clearly the better team.
Individual skills by our forwards decided this game.

I think it's safe to say neither Brazil or Mexico (or Croatia) mind playing us in the second round based on this performance.

As we say in Dutch: een wedstrijd om snel te vergeten.

Martins Indi out with a concussion by the way.
