I'm just saying that at least they're trying. Boyle is a massive long shot, but if you dont try you get nothing.

The Oilers are going to pay Schultz $6M x 6years and still finish damned near dead last.

Dan Boyle has taken dumps with more defensive acumen than Justin Schultz. Even if they were old dumps.

Why? The Islanders are more likely to make the playoffs sooner then Calgary, They play in the East (Lighter travel and easier competition), New Building, New York is a premium market... even if it is the Islanders that you'd be playing for.

I hope the islanders get some type of compensation back for his rights, you have to give them credit... they are making such bold moves, you would think they had Mactavish as GM

I agree, if I was Wideman I would probably prefer the Islanders as well. Wideman is from Ontario, so it's closer to home as well. Before the Flames he played his entire career in the East, if you count St. Louis as being part of the Eastern USA.

Same thing happened with Ehrhoff. They'll trade him to another team for the same conditional picks.

What about the rights to Cammy and Pittsburgh's 3rd for Islanders 3rd. We move up 20 spots for nothing.

Isles GM Garth Snow says he's now shopping Dan Boyle's rights, having been unable to sign the pending UFA defenseman...

Good god Snow is a crappy GM. What exactly makes you think a 90 year old UFA wants to go to the island?

There's no argument that he's a bad GM, but he has to do something to try and improve his club. He can't just sit by, do nothing, and assume nobody wants to play there.

He could find realistic targets?

I dont know, I dont think Dan Boyle was that unrealistic.

Hes an ageing UFA who will want one of two things; Money or winning. Snow tried money.

It is a bit asinine that hes going to try and trade the rights a second time. I think that almost never happens.

I think Snow is an average GM in a terrible situation. I think there only about 10 gms who could do well on the island, if that

Snow did it once with Erhoff.

Hamhuis' rights were traded twice.

the thing is that when GMs trade for UFA rights, they usually make sure that the guy signs, like the Flames did with Wideman ... it's baffling that Snow would make that trade without doing that. Same thing happened with Ehrhoff back then ... Snow traded for his rights, Ehrhoff refused to sign and Snow had to trade him to Buffalo. Just a really bad GM.

EDIT: and of course, sureLoss beats me to the Ehrhoff thing. Dude, are you even human?

Okay, so it happens a lot more than I thought.

Unlikely.

As long as he's handcuffed from making any long term deals, I agree.

That team makes a long term deal and it automatically blows up in their face.

Poor Isles. Even with a healthy Tavares, I predict another bottom 5 finish for them next season.

You could still be right though... Trading for rights may get less common now that there is the "courting" period for UFAs.

That starts 1 week from today BTW.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
@Real_ESPNLeBrun. Told Boyle is intrigued by Isles offer and interest, but remains undecided. Still firm on a 2 year deal.
