Korea looked like the Flames of years past, get a goal and hold on for dear life.
I think they looked pretty good. Won a lot of battles in the midfield, defended well. Offense looks like an issue and they ran out of steam in the end, but still.
To finish this daily thread.. 20 years ago today I was in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas getting ready for the World Cup to start. Germany had opened the tournament earlier in the day with a win in Chicago and I was headed with my dad and a bunch of Korean fans to the stadium that afternoon to watch Spain vs South Korea. The city was hopping and tvs around the city were all on CNN. This was the day of the OJ Simpson White Bronco chase.
The manner in which South Korea qualified to the 1994 World Cup was a “miracle.” South Korea was able to qualify only after Iraq scored a last-minute goal against Japan. As a result of that goal, Korea qualified instead of Japan. In the end that goal by Iraq meant nothing to them but since all 3 of the final matches were played at the same time, they didn't know. So all the Koreans were just thrilled to be there and the best feeling is when you unexpectedly receive something very precious. It was a real party atmosphere. Koreans were tailgating at 3pm for a 6:30pm game. Spain were the perennial underachievers but really, South Korea had no chance.
If you've got an hour and a half to spare here is the game (or really just watch the 2nd half @48:00). Miguel Angel Nadal (Rafael Nadal's uncle!) was sent off in the first half.
And if you're young you won't remember the score.
I was 15 years old, met Korean boys and this is where my love affair with Korean football started
I went to 3 world cup games that year. Germany-South Korea to finish the group stage and that exceptional quarterfinal between Brazil and Holland. All three games had terrible 1st halfs and explosive 2nd halfs

94 World Cup is the first one that I remember as well. I was 6 years old at the time and cheered on as Italy rode on Baggio's coat tails to the finals, only to be heart broken when they lost on penalties.
Paid extra attention to the tourney in 94 since My brother was lucky enough to win a contest that Snickers held and him and my mom won a trip to Washington D.C. To watch a game in the group stages.
That combined with the fact that I thought Striker the mascot was awesome hooked me on the World Cup for life.
