Default Cubs fan alleges he was beaten outside of U.S. Cellular Field

Quote:
"I had a White Sox shirt on and a Cubs hat," Rebenda said. "I mean, I'm a Cubs fan, but I wasn't going to go all in Cubs gear. I know better than that."

But in spite of the shirt, the group's heckling over his outfit intensified, Rebenda said.

"They kind of surrounded me in a little triangle and were running their mouths," he said. "I noticed one guy down here playing with his hand a little bit."

"Next thing I know I get sucker punched in the face," he said.

Rebenda suffered a detached pupil, a fractured globe and six stitches to his left eye.
I know this has happened many times before... but hoenstly being a fan of another team should no way constitute getting your ass beat. Really pathetic and sad.

This kind of thing is so commonplace in Europe it would make your head spin.

In no way shape or form did that fan deserve the beating. That being said he needs to be a bit smarter and think of the possible consequences when wearing a rival jersey to a ball game. It's sad that events like this happen.and some fans feel the need to get violent.

I think he was wearing a White Sox shirt and a Cubs hat. Kinda contradictory so I can see why he got heckled. Still doesn't justify the sucker punch of course though

Doesn't matter. Raiders and Rams fans used to act the same way in LA.

I doubt very much that we are getting the entire story there. He's at a White Sox game wearing a White Sox jersey and three kids - completely out of the blue - attacked him over his ball cap? Half the people in Chicago wear Cubs caps - even at White Sox games. A little heckling about "picking a team" would not be unusual, but I really want to know what he said, because I would not be remotely surprised if he said something that escalated things. Doesn't justify the beating, obviously, but there is more to this.

Pretty stupid outfit. It sucks because he was aware enough about his outfit's consequences, but not aware enough to realize his choice was the worst possible one.

I'm obviously not condoning the thugs' actions, but sometimes you have to take at least minimal precautions to avoid problems.

Also, this has nothing to do with rape. This is about a guy who wore an idiotic outfit to a game where he got beat up by violent idiotic thugs.

I've seen plenty of incidents where drunk losers just start going at someone and it escalates to the victim Of the heckling getting physically assaulted by very little or no fault of his own. Who knows what happened here, but I'm not sure of it like you are. I wouldn't be surprised either way.

All it takes is one idiot. Several years ago I had something similar happen to me walking out of the Saddledome. Fortunately for me there was only one idiot, however if there had been more than one I could have been in trouble.

Judge sends ‘cowards’ to prison for near-fatal beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow

Louie Sanchez and Marvin Norwood both pleaded guilty to the 2011 assault at Dodgers Stadium and were immediately sentenced by an angry judge to eight and four-year jail terms. Stow suffers brain damage and is permanantly disabled, requiring 24-hour-a-day care as a result of his injuries.

In a 12-minute conversation, Sanchez acknowledged he attacked a Giants fan, and Norwood said he had no regrets about backing him up.

"I socked him, jumped him and started beating him," a transcript of the conversation quoted Sanchez, who also apologized to Norwood for dragging him into the fight.

"That happens, bro," said Norwood. "I mean, what kind of man would I have been if I hadn't jumped in and tried to help you."
Yet those two cowards got 4 and 8 year sentences

Should have been locked up for life!

Is a laughing smiley really appropriate when a man is disabled? Haha, rivalries are funny.
