It's cute that he thinks he has a chance...

And the Prentice campaign is off and running. "We'll be totally different this time! This time we mean it!"

Its funny because I listened to the Prentice campaign and I thought that this is exactly what the Wildrose has been saying for the past couple years.

McIver is finally getting people to pay attention to his campaign. All he had to do was march with crazies like Art Pawlowski and his Street Church. https://mobile.twitter.com/RicMcIver...100224/photo/1

Yeah, no idea what Rik was thinking there. He is evidently getting some spectacularly bad advice from his handlers.

And Slava chimes in with a pointless attack on Wildrose in 3... 2... 1...

He's said in the past he's "good friends" with Pawlowski. McIver is a bonehead and probably a (poorly) closeted homophobe.

His defense for attending the event was that he was "celebrating the diversity of Alberta".

Some politicians just don't seem to understand that while most Albertans are pretty conservative fiscally, it doesn't mean they are also conservative socially.

But there IS a group that is pretty conservative socially, and for some candidates it might bet worth it to have that block on their side.

I think the group of social conservative voters in Alberta is often understated like in this post. It may not be a majority, but it's not a infinitesimally small minority, either. There is political capital in mining that parade for votes.

There's political capital, but all you need to do is look to the Wild Rose last election to realize it's not enough, and it's toxic.

McIver is an idiot, he has no chance.

It might not help him become premier but it might save his job as an MLA.

I'd be willing to bet the "gays are evil and going to hell" part of Alberta is infinitely smaller than the "Live and let live" crowd. Look what happened to the Wild Rose last election after a few choice comments.

The thing is you don't need to even slightly appeal to mouth breathers to win the election here. Edmonton and Calgary have 44 seats, which is enough for a majority in an 87 seat legislature. No offense to the rural folk, but you don't need em so don't appeal to their backwards views.

So all rural folk are backwoods bigots, eh?

Says pretty much everything one needs to know about your own bigotry.

Ya, not quite. Ask Ed Stelmach, Jim Dinning and Ted Morton for their thoughts on this post.

Art Pawlowski and his Street Church are idiots and it was a poor move politically by McIver, but the people saying he should resign from the race are bigger idiots.

I'm not saying he should resign but how exactly are the people saying he should resign bigger idiots than the Street Church idiots ?

And that is ridiculous. 83% of the population is urban (2011), and 72% live in Calgary-Edmonton (2012). How the F do the cities only get 50% of the representation...oh yeah, wonderful gerry-mandering.

Rural folk are rural folk, generally staunchly religious. It is what it is, like it or not. Look at electoral histories: Rural voters are substantially more conseravtive, especially socially. If you wanna act like somehow the support for gay marriage is the same in rural Alberta as it is in Calgary or Edmonton, well ok then.
