ya the SN draft preview was rough. It had Reinhart at 5 and Ritchie was 3rd best player. They said the Nucks should take Alex Tuch. They had Haydn Fleury at 17.

I dislike Sportsnet. It's like they go out of their way to be awful. Oh well, only 12 more years.

The same people pegging him as the top forward going on two years are the ones saying he doesn't have elite skill.

Our scouting director was a part of the poll. Needless to say, it looked a lot like the order we had our OHLers ranked. There was actually only one difference, being a flipping of Fabbri and McCann at 6/7.

I also like the looks of Brendan Lemieux, having Claude Lemieux's kid on the roster wouldn't be a bad thing would it? When was the last time we had a real agitator on the team? Ville Nieminen?

Blue Jays game #112 on a random Friday or Flames highest draft pick in franchise history? No brainer for me, but I couldn't care less about MLB anyway.

Vanier is a monster (6'5", 225lbs) whose draft stock on mock drafts & the like seems to have risen, despite playing with a shoulder injury since November. He had shoulder surgery eventually and missed the playoffs as a result. Despite that he got 15 goals, mostly due to his cannon of a slapshot. Plays with a mean edge, but by all accounts his skating is a major weakness and needs a lot of work. I don't think I would take him at 34, but if he was still available in the 3rd round (which seems possible) I would pick him there.

DeAngelo is a bit like Gaudreau, in that he's originally from New Jersey and is an undersized offensive dynamo. He has first round talent as an offensive defenceman but his lack of size and perceived attitude problems have hampered his draft stock. I think he might still go in the 1st round, especially if a team feels they can convince him to buy into the team mentality, instead of his current 'Me First' attitude.

I haven't followed Dougherty for long, but he ticks a lot of boxes for the Flames: good size, RH shot and great hockey IQ. By all accounts he is a really solid defenceman, but maybe tops out as a 2nd-pairing guy. Not a very quick skater, but it doesn't sound like a big issue. Committed to NCAA (Wisconsin). I think he should go early in the 2nd round but I've seen him listed late in the 1st. I think he would be a very solid pick at 34, if not particularly exciting.

Dougherty's Ice Q really stands out to me. If we could draft Reinhart and Dougherty we'd get two of the smartest players in this class. Jack's a big hitter and uses his frame well. Although he doesn't have good front line speed he's fine with his pivots and turns. He jnows when to jump in the rush and he's a great passer. Both on the breakout and in the offensive end. He's got a good shot.

Vanier I'd be fine with for our 53rd OA but 34th is a stretch IMO. He's a huge defenceman who punishes the opposing team. Even at 6'5 and 215 lbs there's q lot more growing to do and more muscel that will be added. He's a huge hitter and will drop the gloves often. He's sound positionally and posses a high hockey I.Q. He has a bomb from the point. His bog weakness is his skating which is understandable withhis size. He should go between 40-60.

DeAngleo for most pf the years was a fiest round prospect but reall fell. He is a bit like Johnnyq Hockey in hos elusiveness. He's very mobil and he is a good passer althoigh he gambles a bit with his passes. He can be caught wandering a bit in his own end. He has a lotof room to grow at 165 lbs. He has quick stick and cam weave his way through the neutral zone. He's calm under pressure.

A few other options are...
Roland McKeown

The Kingston defenceman has elite skating ability with speed (front line) and all the technical stuff. That's at an NHL level. He's a 6'1 right handed defenceman. McKeown controls the acw of the game. He's never out of position and is very confident. He fires strong and accurate passes oit of his zone. He reads the play well and has an active stock to block passes.

Eric Cornel

RWer for the Peterborough Petes he is a Nick Ritchie like prospect. He is a strong power forward that is hard to push off the puck yet has good speed and skill. He was the 3rd overall pick in the 2012 OHL draft. His puck persuit skills are very good. He's got great hands for a 6'2, 185 lbs prospect.

DeAngelo seems to always have major character issues mentioned in every scouting report. Is he just "me first" like Ho Sang or is it deeper than that? Alot of scouts are really down on this kid character.

It's because he has been suspended twice for violating the harrasment, abuse and discrimination policy of the OHL. One of those times was against a teammate.

Not a chance Burke drafts him.

Whether they were racist or homophobic slurs... it's a big deal in today's world. Character issues like that could cause this kid to slip to the 3rd-5th round.
