I'd say if he doesn't make the Flames, he'll put up 80-90 points in the A.

That's a realistic number for Johnny in AHL.
I would say perhaps 40 points in NHL if he stays healthy.

How is 80-90 points a realistic number for either of them when only one player in the league had more than 74 points this year (Travis Morin with 88)? Sorry but 60 points would probably be a great year for Sven or Johnny next year by all accounts.

I'm looking at it this way. Flames farm team will be an offensive powerhouse. Johnny is putting up points everywhere he goes at a crazy rate. By the way my prediction for Sven in AHL would be about 66 points next year. Max had over 60 points just saying. Still saying 80+ for Johnny in AHL.

Jankowski's definitely not a bust. I'm interested in seeing if he turns into the player Weisbrod and Feaster projected him to be.
That said, it just.. kinda hurts to know we could have had either of Terevainen or Maata. Both highly touted players, both likely the best players available at that point. For a team that had limited prospect depth at that time, I just wish we didn't think we were smarter than everybody else when it came to prospect analysis and development.

When I said it would be in the AHL, I was trying to lower expectations around here which have sometimes gotten ridiculous. That he may score 80-90 points in the AHL would come from the AHL equivalency toy which I've read is .53 going from college.
Myself, I'll wait to see how he does and hope to enjoy his success as he has it.

But by all means continue to hate the pick or the player because you liked another player better.

This isn't how it works.
Your best chance to draft a player is increased by drafting closer to first overall.
The further away you get, the less likely the chances are of drafting an impact player.
I don't hate on the Jankowski pick itself, but it was the wrong strategy for the wrong club at the wrong time, and the evidence of that is the 4 guys better than Jankowski and Sieloff right now who were picked with picks that Calgary could have had.
If you asked 30 nhl GMs who they would rather have, Hertl/Ceci/Maatta or Jankowski and Sieloff, you'll probably get 30 responses for the former. Including Burke.
It was questionable at the time and hindsight is proving it. Hertl scored more goals in less games in the NHL than Jankowski did in College.

All this talk about who was available and should have been taken ahead of Jankowski is easy after the fact, really easy.
Does anyone actually know who was #2 choice for the Flames instead of Janko? Perhaps, they were going to pick JoeNobody.

I think Feaster said it was Sieloff.

Yes he did, but I just assumed he was not serious and was just trying to justify the move down.

It has been mentioned many times why this looks like a questionable pick, but the appearance as such does not necessarily indicate that it was so. When Feaster was interviewed right after Jankowski was selected at the draft, he made it abundantly clear that the Flames were expecting a MUCH longer development timetable, and so far that has been the case. It only looks questionable because of where Jankowski is in his developmental track, which is—as was expected—behind most other players in his draft class.
The problem with this pick is that we have to reserve judgment for considerably longer than we are used to doing. He may never be much more than he is right now, but the chance that he could be after a lot of patience is tantalising, and in no small part induced by many of the unusual mitigating factors in Jankowski's history and pedigree.

I think you have unreasonable expectations. Who exactly is Jankowski behind in development from his class based on where he was drafted? Maatta is the only player that has really stepped up and made any sort of impact of players selected after Jankowski, and he was picked immediately after Jankowski. We keep hearing about how great some of these prospects are, but there are quite a few who have not played in the NHL yet either, or proved their mettle. Reinhart, Pouliot, Koekkoek and Faksa were all drafted top 15 and they haven't stepped in yet. You have uber prospects like Teravainen and Laughton who have also not yet broken through. Again, looking past Jankowski and Maatta the only players that have stepped up, other than Matteau in New Jersey, have been guys drafted in the 20's. Tanner Pearson was 20 when he was drafted and he has just stepped in. The other players to make appearances were older than that when selected in the 2012 draft.
People forget that Jankowski was the youngest player selected in this draft, and if a couple months younger still would have been eligible for the 2013 draft. This kid is almost the same age as Sean Monahan! Give the kid the time he needs. He's been excellent in Providence and has improved in many of the areas the Flames had asked him to work on. He's the go-to player up front for a team that plays a NHL style. This is preparing him to step in and not miss a beat when he gets out of college. I really hope that when that time comes people judge him on his play rather than on the player drafted immediately after him.

The Jankowski pick isn't some franchise-crippling error.
Yes, Olli Maata could be contributing a lot to the current Flames team, but one defenceman wouldn't have turned this franchise around. The rebuild was coming no matter what happened in the weak 2012 draft.
Jankowski was picked with an eye to the future, which is exactly where management should have been looking in 2012 and – more importantly – now.

It's crazy when you look at it. It seems like Jankowski should be a lot older because he was drafted a year earlier and is in his 2nd year of university, but they are actually just about a month difference in age.
Sean Monahan = October 12, 1994
Mark Jankowski = September 13, 1994
Monahan is a special case. Not very many 19 year olds play in the NHL. Most are right where Jankowski is. His numbers for a 2nd year 19 year old college player are decent when you consider that he was working on his overall game at the same time.

I did not realize jankowski was that young. He's got 2 years left before he can even be close to a bust.
