I have done that but it looks like a piece broke off, when looking at the photo, right of the cable that moves the right brake thingy. Is it easy to change the cable?
Move that rubber boot back, that metal noodle should have a little shoulder on it that fits into that black bracket that has "power" stamped in it......

Any recommendations for some biking shorts or style to look for? I usually ride in cargo shorts with thick seams, so I might as well get something appropriate, but not so interested in the skin tight stuff.
I am looking quick at Sportchek's page: http://www.sportchek.ca/family/index...goryId=4047403
They have some Louis Garneau trail and mountain shorts that are probably good, just wanted to hear if there is anything to look out for specificaaly for fabric or design.
Thanks
Those shorts will work, I do not like the fit of LG stuff, but that being said I am a big guy......I like the diaspora stuff sportchek sells, and the also carry some nice north face baggy bike shorts.
Mec Iliad shorts are also comfy and you will want to have spandex under them....

So...is there a bike seat that is both compact and comfortable at the same time? Seems impossible not to have to stand on my pedals often after an hour on the bike.
Have you tried adjusting the seat fore/aft as well as the tilt of it.
I bought a bontranger seat at cycle path, and I sat on some gadget that took an imprint of my sit bones....

I'll give that a try but I think the that "shoulder" is broken off. Thanks again.
You should be able to get a new noodle at the LBS. Only trick to replacing it, will be cutting the babel cap off the current cable, the cut needs to be real clean to slide the new noodle on.
Get a replacement cable cap as well.

Look for cargo style shorts with a chamois liner in them. Pretty rare for some reason but they do exist.
Alpinestars and Fox have a few models, this is the Ranger:

I did this today. Bought the I'd bontranger for $80ish after imprinting .
Also went to sportchek for baggy shorts. The ones that fit didn't have deep pockets,so my phone would fall out. I'll probably return the ones I bought.
I went for a ride on my new seat... But my butt is still bruised from my last ride on the stock seat. It was an uncomfortable ride.... I'll try again. Tomorrow
^ please post your enthusiam level (on a scale of 1 to 10) every 25 minutes or so during the ride.......
No reception on the mountain. Couldn't do it in real time.
Max elevation was 2213 meters. Minimum elevation 1547 meters. The 666 meter climb was certainly satanic at points but I also saw little kids on mountain bikes trying to struggle up the hill valiantly.
Does anyone have any first hand knowledge about the Ghost bikes that MEC is carrying? I've just started looking into them a little bit and they seem like pretty solid bikes and decent value for the money? If anyone knows anything about them I'd appreciate it!
Combustiblefuel says you need a $9000 custom bike to handle potholes at 40km/h… yet mountain bikes don't break every ride you take them on.
Interesting. Luckily my ####ty aluminum bike hasn't shattered into a thousand pieces hitting rock ledges that fast, and neither have any of my buddies. We must be lucky!
Totally missed what I was saying. Aluminum is just fine . To my understanding we where debating which was stronger Aluminum vs steal. Yes I did say Aluminum was ####. I was also comparing it to steal . overall steal has the advantage.

Yes I do. I use too work at Mec as a Bike Mechanic . It was one of the secondary jobs I had.You wouldn't want my advice tho. Apperantly I give crap options and o knowledge tho.
]So today was Sunday. Sunday is when our bike club holds our workshops/ rides. Every Sunday we provide lunch to our adult/ youth . This week we had some celebrity chefs come in to make us lunch. Neil Osborne (from 54-40) and his wife Geanine came in to prepare us lunch and fill our souls with music. Awesome day .
For those who don't know who Neil is . He is the vocalist for 5440.

what does a steel bike weigh - 50+ lbs? are there mainstream companies making steel bikes, or is this just a niche thing?

Congrats for making that climb - I am assuming that you are wearing something in polka-dots to work today to shwo that you are the king of the mountain.......

[QUOTE=combustiblefuel;4801810]Not bull##it elite road cyclists may produce 1,600 to 1,700 watts which means the expell 1.5 to 1.70 HP of powet half of an electric motor bike and 1/3 of what me and that motor put together. QUOTE]
I'm not even sure what exactly you are saying there, but your claim that elite road cyclists can produce 1600-1700 wattts is complete BS.
Sure they could, for about 10 seconds, but at his peak Lance Armstrong had an FTP (40-60 minute power) in the 480 W range. So if you've got a motor that puts out 500W, that means you've got Lance Armstrong riding shotgun for you.

And now we get metallurgy lessons from someone who can't spell steel...

Wait, so Aluminum is fine, but Aluminum is ####?
Makes sense.
Do you honestly think anyone was debating which metal was stronger?
The point is which metal is better for making bike frames.
Of course STEEL is stronger, but for bike frames, Aluminum is plenty strong enough.
As for STEEL having the overall advantage?
How do you figure?
It's stronger for sure, but it's a hell of a lot heavier.
There are way more considerations than just strength.
If aluminum was so horrible, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been the standard for a few decades before carbon began to take over.
But hey man, congrats on being smarter than all of the professional engineers and cyclists who concluded that aluminum is better than steel in the majority of bicycle applications.
Oh and also, on being the fastest cyclist ever.
