Default Eklund: Oilers ready to make offer for Phaneuf

Quote:
I am still hearing that Edmonton is prepared to strengthen its push to acquire Dion Phaneuf with an offer Toronto can't refuse. Right now -- and these things can and will change fast by draft weekend -- I would say the chances that Phaneuf ends up in Edmonton are greater than him ultimately staying put with the Leafs.

That would be hilarious. Especially if they give up Eberle or Yakupov as part of the package.

Gagner + Eberle?
Gagner + 1st?
Yakupov + 1st?

Who would they trade? Their 1st rounder? They have no assets to make a trade work.

Since when is Eklund considered to be a trustworthy source?

The only things I can really see Toronto being interested in is RNH, and their 1st rounder. They're fine for wingers, they need centers and d-men.

Garroich and Eklund report Flames and Oilers "rumors" on the same day. Western Canadian traffic must be slow on their respective sites.

Wasn't it Eklund that broke the Shanahan hiring early? Other than that though.... I'm drawing a blank

Not sure how much their is too the rumour but still worth talking about imo

Ecklund is a hack, that being said.... I have read (I believe on CP) that the Leafs are very high on Reinhart. Seems like a logical rumor to make up, Phaneuf for the 1st.

So, if the Oilers get Phaneuf, they will continue to suck. If the Maple Leafs keep Phaneuf, they will continue to suck. I'm torn, can't they each have a Phaneuf?!?

It's a temporary state due to being starved for trade rumours.

I know people always say "I know it's Eklund, but it's still worth discussing" that seems like an oxymoron. This guy is completely unreliable and literally just writes nonsense about the biggest markets in order to draw hits which in turn draw money. I know it's the off-season but this guy is so bottom of the barrel of hockey insiders that he's actually on the outside of it. Every time I see "Rumour: Eklund" I know that it will be some dart in the board ridiculous proposal.

I guess I shouldn't let it bother me, but he's been doing the same thing for years and it annoys me that he acts like he has connections but is really just telling outright lies.

What would be hilarious? To get Phaneuf they would have to give up Eberle or Yakupov. Gagner maybe as part of a package but if the Leafs think Gagner is the solution to their problems up the middle they clearly haven't been paying attention to what's been going on in Edmonton.

Haha. A team with no defense or strength up the middle will trade for a defenseman from a team with no defense or strength up the middle.

How does that work?

Any possible trade between the 2 teams involving Phaneuf would be hilarious.

Phaneuf is ok with it as long as he gets to be Captain. He says Okotoker doesn't cut it.

There's still Dane Phaneuf. Oilers could always sign him. It might even be an upgrade on defence.

You would think the Oilers would go after a defenseman that would actually make their team better. Or are the that stupid?
