Ducks Montreal trades F Louis Leblanc to Anaheim for a conditional 5th

minor trade. Leblanc is a former 1st rounder (18th overall 2009). Colborne type of trade I guess.

Anaheim Ducks ‏@AnaheimDucks
NEWS: #NHLDucks acquire Louis LeBlanc from @CanadiensMTL for a conditional 2015 fifth-round draft pick.

This kid could still develop... he is also the guy with that nasty head/back hit 4ish years ago I think.

I thought they were really high on him. He must have been really unimpressive.

Is he still dating Wozniak? I bet we'll hear from her today if he is.

More info for those wondering why I ask: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/...lanc-1.1858470

Corey Pronman ‏@coreypronman
Leblanc's development didn't drift south, more it fell off a cliff.

Corey Pronman ‏@coreypronman
The Leblanc pick was reasonable at the time, and he was developing decent through his first pro season. Then poof.

For that price tag, worth the gamble for the Ducks, imo.

Anaheim had success breathing new life into Pat Maroon after they brought him in from the Flyers' organization. I suppose they could do it again with LeBlanc.

They had film of a meeting between him and Bergevin at the beginning of the 24CH season. Bergevin told him he needed to hear from the Hamilton coaches that he was the hardest working player on the team. He didn't hear that. Work ethic is non existent, they really wanted this kid to succeed. Not surprised to see him let go.

Have to wonder if he would have been a Habs first round pick if his last name was Smith and he was from Red Deer? As much as it is interesting to take a chance on a former 1st round pick, I don't think that is what your getting with Leblanc, no matter what his girlfriend says

Yep. This entire French thing is now hurting the Habs. They have what, 2 or 3 coaches to choose from everytime they look for a new one.

It's not like Montreal picking him at 18 was a stretch by any means. We (Future Considerations) had him ranked 22nd, while ISS had him 10 spots higher, IIRC.

Injuries hurt him more than his birth certificate, in this case.

It's not like there's not a history on this. They had thousands protesting having an English coach.

It could be worse, they could be like the Leafs and just have crappy hockey players year after year.

It's amazing how arrogant a fanbase can become after one small run in the playoffs. They really only beat one team of any consequence and then got hammered by a weak Rangers team shortly thereafter. The Habs aren't even a top 10 team in the league, and would be in tough to make the playoffs next year if their division was any good.

Draft was also in Montreal that year IIRC.

yup. Plus Leblanc was the first francophone 1st round pick by the Habs in 11 years (the picked Eric Chouinard 16th overall in 1998). Awful lot of pressure for the kid.
