Well some of us peasants are commuting on a 15 year old frame with $400 in replacement parts on it and use a car worth about as much as the Cannondale to get our mountain bike to the trailhead.

My 8 year old was stunned when I told him I paid more for my mountain bike than I did for the 2nd car.

Sorry, but once you cross the $2500-3000 barrier on a current carbon road bike nowadays, unless your last name is Armstrong or LeMond, you aren't going to see a measurable difference to a $10,000 bike. You might shave off 1/2 - 1 pound at the expense of less durable components, and you'll get to work 18 seconds faster.

If I was commuting on a drop bar road bike, and am buying Aluminum frame with Shimano 105 and Panniers. If it gets dumped, it's still rideable, it it gets trashed or stolen, it is replaced for less than the cost of your Aero bars, and giant disk Velodrome rear wheel. Need a new crankset? $120 on ebay. For $1200 you'll get a bike that will last just as long, if not longer, that weighs 2 pounds more, and slows you down a minute.... maybe, over your 64 kms.

And you'll be in better shape

My ride would be about 40kms round trip, I do it on my mountain bike to make it a harder ride vs. my road bike. Also with the path in the shape it is. . . .

My bike weighs about 55lbs. No way is it light. Light bikes at the speed I can attain would snap as my average speed is well over 40km/H. Alumnnuim frames wouldn't handle pot holes or bumps at that speed as they are to rigid.I only use steel as they have some flex. Its not a road bike either. I have different options of what's a commuter and what's not. My defintion of a commuter is what you use as daily transportation and not a toy.

There is nothing wrong with that at all. I have 8 different bikes various years and price ranges. Price does not mean your going to have more fun. I was just trying to to find out what's the big deal about me calling a $9000 bike a commuter. I'm not rich . I hand built my commuter from scratch. Its the man hours , the tools , matriels that all added up.

Their is an older pic of it. I've made some changes to it . I also posted a link to Angels chopper bicycle Club Facebook page . Its the youth mentorship club where we teach them trades. Or Unless you live In Victoria then you would have seen me doing errands. It could have also been on endless-shere.com or RatRodbikes.com. or the tons of people that won't leave me alone with questions and taking pictures then posting its theirs. Usually I get my friend (who is a perfessional photographer) to host the pictures of it on Flicker because then We own the copyright to the picture and can have the images removed from various sites.

I pedeal that beast too. And I sometimes use the red #######( that's his name) as well.If it was a motorcycle you'd have a point. It would require a license and insurance. You dont even know the motor wattage. It In Canada it can't be over 500 . you still got a pedal. Just cuz I'm not a traditionalist does not mean I don't peddle. P.s that thing has had a Electric Assist for only a couple of months. I have been doing the same route 5 plus years now. Don't be A complete dick. I've been peddling as many kms a week as you use your car.
