He must be thinking about retirement to sign a one year deal. Still a very effective player at his age. I'd rather pay him 7 million a year for one year than have Wideman for three more at his salary.

For a 1 year deal, that's probably not an overpayment if it is 5+. Not having to secure a long term is a huge advantage, especially considering the lack of viable defensemen in the market this year.

The phrasing in that tweet suggests to me $4 million total. Your edited title suggests $6 million total.
