Default Cell contract almost up, have a question

As title says, my contract is almost up but I would like to replace it sooner. I currently have the HTC Amaze. It's a little over 3 yrs old now and despite that fact, I still quite like it but it is starting to show its age as far as hardware goes and getting a few quirks in it now. Plus it's only seen one single OS update since I've had it so I'm a ways behind as far as Android versions go.

I've been impressed with what I've seen with the new HTC One (M8) and I do believe that's the one I'll go far but...

Ever since I've entered the smartphone age, all I've ever owned is HTC phones. I quite like them, I think they are well made.

But as this would be my 4th HTC phone, I'm wondering if there is any compelling reason to look at something else?

For the record, not fond of Samsung and I'll never buy an iPhone.

I realize this may be a bit of a silly question but I'm not really up to date as far as what's new or what's on the horizon.

I'm with Telus btw.

You'll definitely want to look into getting a Nexus 5 for a couple reasons. Great alternative to Samsung/HTC as well being a very cost effective option versus re-signing for another 2 years.

Assuming you're in Alberta and on a regular consumer plan, it's possible for you to keep your current plan (dependent of whether Telus has it grandfathered specifically) as long as it reaches $70 including add ons. You'll want to take a closer look into what a new contract will cost you because more often than not, buying a phone outright makes more financial sense.
