Flames What current Flames players/prospects have you met?

I've read plenty of stories on here about people meeting guys like Iggy or Cammy which are always enjoyable, it always gives a bit of insight into their personalities and that kind of thing.

Wondering if anyone has met any of the current guys? Just out and about or at fan events and what your impressions are? I'm especially interested in a lot of the new faces? Cheers

1. Saw Byron Ritchie walking out of Holt Renfrew at TD Square (pre-renovation) with a hot girl. Didn't talk to him.

2. Was behind Marty Gelinas in line at YYC in early 2010 on a flight out to Vancouver. Spoke with him and took a picture with him. Nobody else seemed to recognize him. Either that, or everyone was respecting his privacy and space. However, he was the first NHLer I'd ever had the chance to speak with in person, so I took that chance! He was a great guy, but we only spoke for a couple of minutes

3. Met Marty Gelinas again a few months later on the Skytrain in Vancouver. Again, nobody seemed to recognize him. He got on a train I was already riding, and we spoke again for ten minutes, and he told me about some party at Iggy's house (can't remember the details). Again, a really nice guy.

Met Backlund last year at Melrose, was surprised that he was actually kind of rude. Could have been because he was just with a girl and didnt want to be bothered by some drunk.

Met David Moss and Rhett Warrener on separate occasions and both were super friendly.

Not a flame but I met Paul Bissonette at a Jays game and he was one of the nicest and funniest guys I have ever met.

Ran into Monahan at a bar. Extremely nice kid loved talking hockey, didn't want to keep him long but he told me he'd love to have sam bennett drafted this summer

I remember him saying that too. That's good, because it's very likely that we will be picking him.

You can often find disgruntled and recently-cut former prospects on the 'Back Burner' forum.

That might be a better place to ask.

Just look for somebody who says Troy G Ward is an idiot, or how he thinks that some longshot prospect who just got sent to the ECHL never got a fair chance.

I'm not even kidding. I'd say there's at least one per season.

Yeah, that was pretty weird but besides being cut, he's been banned.

I've met all the guys on the teams from about 2004-2007 working at Airport security. Of the current roster I've met:

Joe Colburne - Great dude
Lance Bouma - Same as Colbourne
Sean Monahan - Down to earth guy

Haven't really met most of the new flames. I did have to give D Sutz a pat down search once.

Christ Simon would hit on Jabba the hut if he had a chance, the guy is duuuuuuuuuuuuuuurty and would hit on this girl with meth teeth every time he came though security.

My wife's friend dated Oliwa, that was quite the story. He was pretty funny around the guys though and would constantly crack jokes about everyone having huge nipple rings when they set off the alarm.

I've ran into Kipper around town quite a bit and he is a funny guy.

Met Monahan at development camp, great kid. Also met some other guys. Played hockey with Klimchuk when I was younger (like 10 years ago in peewee) so I've known him for a while, another pretty good kid.

Met Backlund, Reinhart, and Smith at Cowboys one night. They wouldn't take a picture with me, although I chalk that up to having just lost a game that same night and seeing as I was about 20 rum n cokes deep, they probably weren't in the mood to deal with annoying drunk fans.

Also met Wotherspoon at Cowboys once. He was pretty hammered (again, I was too) but was really good to talk to.

Met plenty of former Flames as well but this thread is for the current ones and that's all I can think of now.

Met Cammy and the 06/07 L.A Kings at a nightclub I worked at in Banff. Really nice dude. He kind of separated himself from the rest of the team and sat alone. This was the season just before Sutter acquired him.

Kopiyar was Nice and Rob Blake was very polite.

And Ratis Ivanits was a friggin monster.

I met Granlund, Westgarth, Stempniak, and Gio at a bar one evening. Really nice guys, all seemed down to earth. Westgarth was especially nice, he'd just been traded here and was very excited.

Further, I met Monahan and Sieloff out at a bar as well. Just chatted briefly, but they seemed like humble guys.

Finally, I met Brodie at an autograph signing. It was in November a couple years ago so I was sporting a pathetic moustache. The first thing Brodie said to me was, "Nice muzzy". My buddies hate it, but I still use this interaction as an attempt to justify my terrible facial hair... "Well, T.J. Brodie liked my moustache..."

for current guys i've met...

backlund - super super nice guy. took time to chat. totally top shelf

reinhart - talked to him for a minutes at the young stars tourney. again, really nice, but kinda quiet.... mind you, it must be tough regularly chatting with strangers

other past flames i've met.... conny, fleury, noodles (holy crap is he funny!), brent and darryl sutter, eric godard

i met linden penner at the most recent young stars tourney. he was with everett but the hitmen traded for him - i guess they wanted to watch him a little more closely after getting the invite from the flames to the young stars tourney

Conny. Very nice. At Max Bell, he was watching an on ice session in the row behind me. Two seasons ago, preseason, spoke about how much they liked Sven's compete level. I was looking for a selfie with him and Feaster offered to take the photo, and did.

Rhett. Had a beer or two with him and some mutual friends shortly after the broadcasts where Sportsnet had he and Millions sitting on stools. Took a shot at that, he hilariously acknowledged how horrible that was and proceeded to tell some great stories about the team.

Iggy. At Winsport prior to his last year. Gentlemanly. Signed my '10 Olympic jersey.

Cammalleri. Same day as Iggy. On skates and still way shorter than me.

Simmer (great hair) and Millions (great sunburn ("c*******r!") at the airport.

Lanny at the dome and Macoun in the plus 15, but who hasn't run in to them?

I spotted Darryl Sutter downtown years ago in his Ford SUV. I was stopped beside him at a red light, so I gave him a honk and wave. He gave me a thumbs up and drove away. What a cool dude.
