The problem will be that they didn't give Carrey enough license to improvise. I read the first movies transcript and most of the jokes weren't funny and nearly everything that was unique or memorable Carrey just made up on the spot (e.g. hitting harry with the cane, spraying the binaca sideways, we landed on the moon etc.). The trailer made everything look incredibly scripted and rehashed, sad but not surprised. It'll probably be akin to Anchorman 2, rehashed moments and awkward forced jokes with bad timing because the original was so well loved that they reduced the improvising which was part of the originals charm.
Even if it isn't as good as the first one, I will probably watch it over and over. It will be exactly like Ghostbusters 1 and 2, any time they are on TV I will watch them.
I don't know if it just wasn't good, or if my expectations are just so sky high that I was just not ever going to like it, but it felt off for me.
It almost felt like I was watching a trailer for a fake movie. It felt like a parody trailer. I don't know. Perhaps it was good to have this trailer that I didn't really like. It might lower my expectations for the movie. Maybe that was the plan here.

A little taken back by some of the negativity following the trailer release. Maybe because I had low expectations when it was announced (knowing it can never match up to the original) I was actually rather impressed by the trailer.
Rather looking forward to this one now.

I realized that a huge part of it is the soundtrack, the music in the original was extremely well chosen and helped to provide the right frame of mind for each scene.

Yeah, I'm actually taking it as a positive sign that some less funny clips (althought chuckle worthy) were shown in the trailer.
AMWTDITW had roughly half of it's funniest bits stuffed into its trailer. I'd rather have all the really funny moments come out of the blue, than be rewatching jokes that I already laughed at until it wasn't amusing anymore be repeated in the movie. They showed just enough to make it look worth while, and didn't overdo it. Will see.
It's still weird seeing Will McAvoy doing this stuff.
