surprised by the love for Breen. He has been in our system for 5 years and hasn't really shown much growth. It is time to cut him loose.

Fair enough, I suppose that makes sense given that they might want to see how draft and trades go down first. Just wanting some player related news and getting prepared for the complete lack of hockey fast approaching :P

Not yet, he can fill a huge hole on our team. Last year he was recovering from an injury. If he can't cut it this season, than maybe but he's still useful in the minors.

I sort of agree with you. I think he is very slow to react as a defenseman so if the Flames wants to give him another chance, they should move him to RW where he can use his big body in the corner or even in front of the net. Maybe he is the second coming of Burns or even Byfuglien while he was playing F in Chicago. If he stays as D, i don't think he's got any chance to crack the lineup anytime soon so they might as well say let him loose.

On Breen, I say give him one more year. He had an injury plagued season and started to show good things on his most recent call up. Could just be a late bloomer, or could just be crap. Worth another year to see. Not like we really have a lot of defensive prospects anyway, who's spot is he taking if we keep him?

Breen is the wrong style of defenceman to find success on the wing. I can't see that working at all.

I definitely agree with keeping him. One or two years on a two way deal. If he doesn't pan out, oh well.

Wait a second, going from undrafted unknown to playing in the NHL is not showing much growth now?

Poster could be aiming for the old "He made the NHL even though he wasn't good enough because the team has terrible Defensive depth and because they themselves were not good enough so he got a shot" angle.

IMO his progression has been sidetracked numerous times since he signed here.
In the times he has made progress it's been during stints where he was unjury free. PMM kept telling us he's ready, I believe him.

I feel he should get re-signed to a two year deal. The final make it or break it chance he gets with the organization. He just needs to stay healthy.

I'm finding myself thinking he's on a similar development trajectory to that of Mikael Backlund. Plenty of injury setbacks but one solid season is going to turn it all around.

That being said, I think he may be let go and he'll become a solid D-man elsewhere.

I agree with PMM, I have watched alot of Heat games and I also thought Breen was ready. Injuries slowed him down this year, no question. I think giving him an additional year (or 2) to evaluate if this season was just a setback due to injuries, or if injuries have derailed his chances at being an NHL regular is a very good idea.

But I still stand by my point that saying Breen hasn't shown much growth is asinine. I would even go as far as saying this season was the first time he hasn't taken a step forward in his career on a year to year basis.

I liked how Breen played towards the end of the year. I think he's the perfect 7th man.

Shane O'Brien will most likely be bought out if they can't find him a new home. I don't think they will want him to bring a bad attitude to Adirondack.
