Square Enix WON'T be showing Final Fantasy XV or Kingdom Hearts 3 at the show.

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Fin...014-64509.html

Disappointing news for sure -- I wasn't expecting KH3 to make an appearance but I'm very disappointed we won't be seeing more of FFXV. It's my most anticipated next gen game. Hopefully it's not a sign it's being thrust back into development limbo.

Should still see something on the first FFXIV expansion but this has decreased my hype for E3 a bit.

I recall games being between $60-$80 as a kid for Super Nintendo and N64 regularly.

That's probably a US flyer. When the Canadian dollar was junk $80 for the lower cost games was normal.

EDIT: Might be a Canadian flyer. With the games shown in there, it was after the N64 came out for sure, so by then they'd be trying to clear out the SNES.

If you compare the quality of the games vs. the price of the games today vs. then, we're clearly ahead.
I remember getting Mortal Combat for the Sega Genesis in the 90s at Costco and it was 80-90 bucks.

Obviously 70 bucks sucks compared to 60, but when you get a killer game you play crap out of, it's easily worth it.

I remember paying 94 dollars for Final Fantasy 7 from Compucentre in Market Mall. The game released a couple years earlier, and I had to scour the city to find a copy. About 6 months later, it was re-released as a Best of title for 30 bucks.

Expensive video games are nothing new. The first PS2 games were 79.99. Heck, I remember my dad buying me Super Contra from Kmart for 60 bucks back in the 80's. Now that was expensive (given inflation).

I remember saving up my money when I found out Final Fantasy III (VI) was coming for the SNES. Man, that was lot of money but so worth it.

It's interesting (and perhaps a little scary/sad) how steam sales and mobile game models are skewing people's sense of pricing. Maybe even revising what they thought prices were in the past. Some of the entitlement and whining on the internet these days about any pricing above $0.99 is just painful to listen to.

I agree, but I still find myself balking at paying full price for a game when I know in a few months it will be on a Steam sale for half off. I've also vowed to never pre-order another game after being burnt so many times in recent years

With the E3 sales and 30 dollar trade-ins you only end up paying 20 bucks to play most titles even at the 70 dollar price mark. Not bad at all, IMO.

Last I heard, there wasn't going to be an announcement.

Could be wrong, but don't be surprised if it doesn't appear.

If you can't make a game in 8 years, you probably just aren't very good at making a game.

Just look at Alan Wake.

It's funny that only $10 creates a bit of a hesitation for consumers (myself included), especially if you breakdown the entertainment value you get for the money. A standard 20-30 hour adventure game breaks down to less than $3/hour. When you look at what's available out there for entertainment at less than $3/hour, the pickings are mighty slim. If the game was $60, at that rate you'd only save $0.40/hour.

Look at games like NHL or epic RPGs and that 20-30 hour figure gets blown out of the water. It takes 24 hours to finish an entire season in NHL, and I've had years where I've played 4 seasons.

You might be right, I hope you are wrong though. Maybe the hype will be real.

Alan Wake took 6 not 8. But for the most part he's right, the games 8 years or longer in development mostly suck or went largely unnoticed. Morrowind, Fallout 3, Resident Evil 4 and Stalker all took 6 years.
