Default This seems a little off

Girl wants to come up from the US to visit family here. Financials being what they are, she can only come up if she can work a little while she's here, to supplement the money she has to come up here. She holds dual citizenship. Wouldn't she still have to have a work visa, since she's a US resident, even with dual citizenship? I'm probably presuming too much, but it seems like she's not planning on letting the authorities know she plans to work while she's here.

If she holds dual US/Canadian citizenship then she is legally entitled to work in either country for any employer.

Ah ok. Thanks for the info! I was envisioning her getting in caca and listening to the tales of woe from her family.

Does she have proof of Canadian Citizenship? What about a SIN card?

No idea. Wasn't mentioned. My only suggestion was to make sure she had every last bit of paperwork in order and on her person, just in case.

That's the thing. She definitely needs a SIN to work. She could apply when she gets here. However if she doesn't have sufficient proof of citizenship, she may have a hard time at the border; and/or applying for the SIN.

For example if she was born in Canada to American parents, and returned to the US as an infant, the task of proving would be tougher than if she was born to American parents, lived in Canada until she was 19, and went to the States to live.

If she was born in Canada, she would have a Canadian birth certificate and therefore have Canadian citizenship and easy proof of Canadian Citizenship as Canada immediately grants it to anyone born in Canada. She would just need to take that Birth Certificate to any Service Canada office and apply for a SIN, no further proof.

If she has an American birth certificate due to being born in the US to Canadian parents, then it would be more difficult to prove the Canadian Citizenship.

Also need to consider IRS tax issues in the US.

In the bolded scenario, she can apply for a citizenship certificate (card) as proof of Canadian citizenship. Takes up to six months though:
