From that interview with Devine it sure sounds like if you read between the lines that the Sabres are likely to take Reinhart or Bennett unless he's intentionally downplaying Ebklad/Draisaitl. Some pretty high praise for the Sams.

If Draisaitl is NHL or almost NHL ready he will be an Oiler. Good as Bennett looks like a possibility, although I would not be shocked if Ekblad slides to Calgary.

If Florida doesn't pick Ekblad, I think the Flames will... I really think the Oilers "think" that they have great defensive prospects as is, and they are probably going to draft Draisaitl to fill into that top 6.

It looks to me while Panthers probably should pick a dman, deep down they don't want to do that with number 1 pick. 100% Buffalo will pass on Ekblad.

Exactly. Edmonton needs that #2 centerman, they get that out of Draisaitl. I am starting to think Toronto works out a deal with Florida and picks Bennett. They really think highly of the kid. With that, Calgary should still be able to get their hands on Ekblad, whether we trade Buffalo or not.

1. Toronto - Bennett
2. Buffalo/Calgary - Reinhart/Ekblad
3. Edmonton - Draisaitl
4. Calgary/Buffalo - Ekblad/Reinhart

I think Florida would take Phaneuf + 8th OA and a pick from Toronto if his salary gets retained.

EDIT: Probably won't happen, but this could happen if Toronto finds a way to grab Bennett.

Oilers aren't wrong to go for a big center IMO.

Look at our division. Kopitar, Getzlaf, Thornton/Couture, Kesler. All big bodied centers that will abuse you if you try and match up with them with weak centers.

You need somebody to go head to head against those guys and the best way of doing that is usually the draft.

Whether it be Ekblad or one of the centers there really is no wrong pick. The pick that will come back to bite the Oilers in the behind is taking another winger in Yakupov over Murray.

While I'm not a fan of taking Ekblad 1stOA, I'm a huge fan of taking him at 4thOA.

There are a lot of teams that are not going with the BPA in this draft. The 2013 draft was perfect with the BPA path, but this years' draft is for the organizational need. It's one reason why I think Ekblad could drop to us. Either he goes #1 or #4.

Florida knows they should be picking Ekblad, but they still want to trade down because there isn't a top winger in the top 3 (they need wingers more than defenseman). Calgary and Toronto are the only ones I have heard wanting to trade up so far.

Buffalo needs forwards, I assume they will be picking S. Reinhart if it isn't Sam Bennett (or whoever is available if Florida picks one of the Sams). They are probably going to stay at #2, no matter how much I would rather trade them than Florida.

Edmonton has to be set on Bennett or Draisaitl. Draisaitl has size, and looks a bit more NHL ready than Bennett.

Calgary is probably the toughest one to call. Luckily, we will be going with the BPA in the draft. I too think there is a top 4 in the draft, so we should clearly have the easiest choice. I don't think our management thinks this way, I feel that we are really trying hard to get the #1 pick because we most likely won't get the player that we want at #4 (I am thinking Reinhart or Ekblad is who we are going after).

What's best for us is to stay at #4, we will be getting a great player either way. If Draisaitl is considered a worst case scenario, that's a great worst case scenario in my eyes. If we are trading our pick, please stay in the top 4. Trading up >>> Trading down.

If that were to happen you'd have to think the order becomes:

Reinhart
Bennett
Ekblad
Draisaitl

Depends what the Canucks are offering. If they include roster players in a potential deal, they trump any offer we can make with guys like Edler and Kesler.

If it's a prospects & picks combo don't see how we would let them do that, we can match anything they have.

Nylander is who they are rumored to be very high on, not Ehlers as much.

Today Burke was mentioned as not optimistic regarding trading up for 1st overall. It would take considerable leverage out of Vancouver to move from 6 to 1 rather than 4 to 1, but they could put together a better package for 1st than Calgary can. My guess is that Burke/Treliving made the offer but the asking price was too much.
