Poirier has Shoulder Surgery
Roger Millions @RogMillions
Burke "Poirier just had shoulder surgery. Won't see him next season right away. That's a blow. Thought Poirier would have a chance in camp.

Apparently he played the whole season with a "bad wing." I cant wait to see him with two good wings

Bit of a bummer that both he and Klimchuk have been set back by injuries but it's part of the game and as long as it's properly handled and he doesn't rush back it won't be an issue.

Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing him in camp. Oh well, hope he heals up!

at least it's taken care of. Hopefully he comes out and dominates when he's ready. It'll suck not seeing him at the development camp in July.

You know what's really, really nice? Having a first-round draft pick from the previous draft undergo surgery, and absolutely no one panicking about it.

It's not a knee injury. That's the most important thing.

Yeah it is nice actually. If this had happened to Baertschi or Monahan before their NHL debuts there would have been hysteria. I think it speaks to the growth in strength that our prospect base has seen over the last couple years.

I'd be more concerned if it was a knee injury or a concussion. Sucks for him, hope he'll be back soon and excel in the AHL.

This still sucks though. Oh well I'll get to focus more on gaudreau at camp I guess.

Why did they wait so long to do surgery and what is his expected return date? So many questions

If he played that well with a bad shoulder, it will be interesting to see what he's like when it's healed.

I wonder, depending on how long the injury takes to heal, if he misses camp will they give him any of the seven games as a try out before sending him back to junior?
Actually is he still junior eligible?

I don't think he is junior eligible anymore, isn't he now going to play in the AHL?

He is Junior-Eligible still, but he also makes the cut-off to play in the AHL.

Pretty sure he will end up in the AHL next year. Ward was impressed with him at the end of last season. Hopefully he gets a chance with the big-club once he is up to speed if there are any injuries or such.

Are we even sure he can do one now? Maybe he was trying to do one after he heard the news about Bennett and that's how he hurt himself?

better to have him get the surgery done before his NHL career starts than pulling an Oiler and letting him get banged up the way Hall and Nugent-Hopkins were.

Out of curiosity, could the flames have demanded he have shoulder surgery right away when they were notified? And why wouldn't they have to ensure he's ready for training camp?
