I thought so as well. I feel bad for hoping this, but maybe he killed himself and is laying in a ditch somewhere?

Wishful thinking, unfortunately. My feeling last night was that this would end in a last stand scenario, and it doesn't seem likely to change. Hopefully they manage to surround him in an otherwise empty house and just wait him out.

Thoughts to the victims and their families.

I know. That is why there are so many idiots out there who doesn't care if he/she dies just to get the 15 minute of fame.
I guess 3 RCMP died and 2 are still in the hospital. It is a sad, sad tragedy. I guess they are still doing some manhunt and I hope they catch him soon to avoid more tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are for the victims. I hope those two RCMP recovers.

In this situation will they really be focusing on trying to apprehend him instead of just taking him down?
Crazy brave if that is the case.

Just listened to a retired FBI profiler on CBC radio.
Says that he appears very dangerous based on the photos as he has a relaxed demeanour and appears to be "mission orientated". Also as mentioned by a few posters previously refused to name him by name and simply as "he" because they are seeking attention.
Asked if there were warning signs that should have been picked up on based on his FB page, said not really and these sort of things are pretty much impossible to predict as there are a lot more (for want of a better word) disturbing FB pages out there than this fella.

They will try and take him alive if possible. Your job is always to preserve life, even this nutjob. That being said these types of people almost never allow themselves to be taken alive. Hopefully nobody else loses their life in this.

The people doing that is probably few, and far between. I checked his fb page yesterday and today, and noticed over 30 "friends" of his wisely unfriended him. One wonders why nobody alerted anyone in a position that could either help the guy out (psychologists, mental health workers, etc.) or even the RCMP or CSIS about the contents of his page.
It seems like the dude was a ticking time bomb, and if I had someone on my Facebook friends list, with every posting about guns, anti-Government, violence, etc, I would at the very least, discuss him with his more moderate friends, and suggests the guy needs help.

The attempt is to ALWAYS bring the person in for trial/justice in that manner. The Police/RCMP are not a vigilante force that roam around with the "you killed my brother, now you die" mentality that is so often ascribed to them. Every effort is always made to apprehend and bring to proper justice.
It is not EASY to do that when the person has killed multiple co-workers and friends, and they may not get the choice to bring him in alive, but every attempt to do so will be made first.

Let's not go pointing the finger at "facebook friends" for not alerting RCMP.
Just because someone is pro-gun and anti-government doesn't mean they are going to go on a shooting rampage.
Edit: Plus you don't know if people did alert RCMP or did try to talk to him, so trying to place blame is misguided.

Pretty sure most normal folks could pick that out with the photos of him. I hope his level of expertise goes beyond that.
Also, if this guy was such an anti-government cop hater, warning signs should be going up all over the place for not just social media, but people in general. Friends, family, acquaintances - someone must have seen some warning signs. Usually guys with that sort of motive don't keep it quiet and enjoy ranting about their hatred to others.

But they can't really give this guy the benefit of the doubt though either. He is extremely dangerous and incapacitating him at this point is probably the only logical thing to do before getting in close enough to apprehend him. And just by the nature of it, an incapacitating shot has a pretty high chance of being lethal.
Unless he comes out and surrenders with his hands in the air and cameras on him, I will be surprised if he isn't at least maimed pretty good.

I live in small town Alberta and know many cop hating anti authority types. You can't just go reporting them to the RCMP. The vast majority of those wing nuts don't go on crazy shooting rampages.

Pick up on what motive exactly? That he didn't like the government and cops?

Yup.
Although I should clarify, "motivation" is what I meant. My suspicions are that his crimes are related to his anti-government, anti-police stance. Of course though, I could be wrong.

That's what I mean, though. They will TRY to take him alive. Maybe they can, maybe they can't. But they will TRY. They are not thinking "Well, he shot three of us and hurt two others, let's just shoot to kill and save everyone some time." The EFFORT to take him alive will always be made. But the CHOICE to do so may be out of their hands.

I'm no legal eagle or policing expert, but in my humble opinion they should shoot to kill because he's a danger to the public, let alone to the police. He's walking around communities heavily armed and he killed 3 people yesterday. Who gives a flying f about his life? (I know, I know... That's not the "right" attitude. But it seems more logical than having an entire city shut down and putting the public and more cops in danger while they try to take him alive)
