Default Trailer Hitch with Sway control

So, I finally bought a trailer. Picked it up in Wyoming, and drove it back. Holy white knuckle through the storms. So, what do people use for sway control? I've read about Reese Dual Cams, Equilizer hitches, Propride, blue ox etc. It's a little overwhelming. Any recommendations?

Should have noted it's a 23ft trailer, tongue to bumper. GVWR of 7550 lbs.

Never bought one as my boat is only 2200 lbs, but Reese is the name I trust most for hitches.

not sure the weight of the trailer you're pulling and what vehicle your using to pull it with, but an equalizer hitch and sway bars are a must for ANY size trailer over 18 feet. Use the Hitch company, or go to a travel trailer outfit.

Reese Dual Cam weight equalizing hitch all the way. You'll love it.

Either the Reese or the Blue Ox. The Blue Ox is a better setup if you have a heavier trailer and a bigger truck. For most applications the Reese is great. Standens is usually the cheapest for stuff like that.

I like the Andersen hitch stuff, they do things a bit different.

I have an Andersen as well, I haven't had any issues with it but my trailer is rather small (23 feet I believe).

I like that I don't have to worry about any grease, makes storage easy.

can't seem to get the youtube link to work

I don't actually have their hitch but I like their products. I had the Reese dual-cam when I had a travel trailer, it was ok but of creaking and groaning, not sure I'd buy it again.

I currently have an equalizer brand WDH. It's a bit noisy but works really well. I had an Anderson previous to it and thought it did next to nothing for load balancing so I sold it on kijiji.

I had a Reese with my last truck and it worked great as well.

Do you not have the grease the ball on a standard hitch? I was always under the impression you needed some grease on there because of the friction.

I have equalizer and it seems good. It does get a bit noisy after a long trip when you get to the campground

Spoiler!

When I was a kid my dad bought a large trailer we used to take on vacation. He drove it without sway bars the one and only time. What a nightmare that was. Got some of those sway bars and the problem no longer existed. Night and day difference.

Sway control is nessessary IMO.

Equalizer, Reese and Andersen all have sway control as part of their WDH set ups (I think Reese. Has a few cheap ones that don't however) which is why they tend to be good options. Personally sway control is the most important thing to me when towing as have always added airbags to my tow vehicle. My dodge airbags cost $90 and are amazingly useful and easy to setup.

Do you think the Andersen would work ok on a smaller trailer? I have a 22ft, tongue to bumper. 550lb tongue weight. 7550 gvwr trailer. Towing with a F150. I also have a friend selling an older Blue Ox Sway Pro. It weighs quit a bit, and I'm not sure my wife can handle it.

I have a 23' boat, so loaded with fuel, stuff and with trailer we're over 6500lbs.

I have a Reese weight distributing hitch and it was well worth the money. We do lots of long distance road trips and this thing is fantastic to tow with in high winds or even on hard braking. Fantastic, and would highly recommend.

I personally did not have the best experience with the Andersen WDH but others I have talked to have had decent experiences with it. My main issue was not about sway but was that I felt I could not dial it in properly to balance the load. After about an hour of trying relentlessly to get the weight somewhat close to even across the axels I gave up. With my equalizer brand I was able to get it almost spot on. Now the equalizer is loud as hell with the squeaking and clanking but a bit of sound doesn't bother me.

Blue ox isn't bad at all, make sure you get the proper bars for the tow weight and you should be good to go.
