Look, I'm not going to Fan Fest because I'm not in Calgary. If there was no labor talks then I would have been in Calgary already.
|
Anyone going to FanFest this weekend? Nik Lewis isnt - sounds like he wont be making the drive up to Calgary until the labour talks conclude.

The Calgary Stampeders have acquired import defensive back Dee Webb from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in exchange for a conditional 2015 draft pick.
The Stampeders have also signed free-agent veteran import defensive back Lin-J Shell, who was most recently with the BC Lions.
The Stampeders also released import defensive back Jonathan Hefney and import receiver Tim Hawthorne.

Dee Webb.. hmmm.. he played for Stamps before.
We lost quite a few DBs from last season so I guess it just makes sense to start picking up DBs. I can see Stubler's stamps on both DBs we acquired. I was not happy with Hefney's play last season. I guess Bombers knew something when they cut him. Hawthorne I like but I think he got hurt late in the season. With Fuller, Price, Joe West and I think they will give Parker lots of chances this coming season so Hawthorne might not be in the mix. I think the real reason might be his injuries I am sure. I just can't remember what type of injuries it was.

Ti-Cats cut Spencer Armstrong who the Stamps traded to Ti-Cats earlier this off-season was also cut. He could easily wind back here in Calgary or with Barker in Toronto.

Not sure he will be back in Calgary though. They are loaded with non-import receivers. Brad Sinopli, Jabari Arthur, Yannick Morin-Plante, Anthony Parker, Simon Charbonneau-Campeau and Forzani. Not even sure if Forzani will be back. Chances are Barker will pick him up.

Shell is a Stubler favorite. Going with bodies he is comfortable. Though I'm not sure he has much left in the tank. Its an upgrade on Hefney.
Webb often struggled with starting assignments in Hamilton. I'll be surprised if he is nothing more than a camp body. Huge fan of Josh Bell though.

I wasn't positive earlier on Dee Webb but as I recall he struggled in some games last season. Now that you mentioned it, i am now sure he was the DB I was thinking about. I don't really know much about Josh Bell though. I guess I did not watch a lot of BC Lions game last season. Man I am hoping Webb plays better with Stubler and Huff coaching him.

I get why they signed a few DBs above...
Statement from Huf on Butler:
“I’ve met with Quincy on several occasions about his situation. Obviously, I’m highly disappointed anytime one of our players finds himself in this type of situation. At this time, Quincy and I feel that his efforts would be best spent away from the football club and focusing on his personal matters. Therefore, Quincy will be suspended at the start of training camp on June 1. Upon the resolution of his legal situation, we will reassess the matter and make a determination on his status with the team.”

Butler is lucky there may be a delay this year...then again it might be the golden boot.

Maurice Price made a statement today :
"I apologize for the insensitive remarks I made on social media last month. I realize my comments were offensive and I sincerely apologize to the Canadian Football League, the Calgary Stampeders, my fans and especially to Michael Sam. I promise to represent the values of the Canadian Football League and the Calgary Stampeders in the future."

In other words, Hufnagel told me to do this or I would be cut.

I'd rather see him cut so the Stamps would lose their best receiver. But that's probably just me
