Aaron Vickers @AAVickersHad a chat with Sam Reinhart this AM. Said if he fell to CGY (Max) or NYI (Griffin), it'd be a pretty nice consolation prize. #NHLCombine

I would sacrifice a goat to ensure that this happens.

Agreed. Sam Reinhart ending up on the Flames is, to me, the absolute best case scenario that can happen in this draft. If it happens, we might as well have had a 1st overall pick this year.

With Mono + Reinhart, the Flames would be set for 10 years+ up the middle.

Same can be said for either Bennett or Leon, no?

Gonna be a huge win this draft each way.

		| Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving takes a break from a day of interviews at the NHL Scouting Combine. He and his staff spent part of the day assessing two goaltenders. They are trying to figure out exactly what these young men are made of, mentally.
“I think it’s at the forefront for each team. It’s something we pay a great deal of time and attention to,” says Treliving who lists some of the character traits his group is looking to measure. Coachability, work ethic, response to success or failure, drive. Each trait forms the basis of excellent mental performance, which is critical in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. “We do have some tools through sport psychology, through certain questionnaires, certain testing we feel gives us a clear picture. We’re constantly evolving, I say we’re closing the gap,” he says.

It’s no secret why of the six days at the NHL Scouting Combine, five are devoted to 1-on-1 player interviews and one is left for fitness testing. “The mental aspect of the sport is 90 percent of it,” says Treliving. “Physical deficiencies can be addressed,” but he indicates mental skills can’t be so easily tweaked.

Treliving admits hockey is catching up when it comes to the emphasis placed on what is under the helmet. “Mental performance and mental capacity are things that in recent years we’re trying to get a better handle on. It would be ignorant for me to say we 100% without a flaw have a way of predicting the answers to all the questions we have when evaluating the mental side of the game. But we do feel we can make decisions based on the information we ascertain,” he comments.

A little smoke Flames will take a goalie this year.

If Florida, Buffalo, or even Edmonton grab Reinhart before us, would Treliving and Burke trade for him? My thoughts are no, but if I was a GM, I would really like to have a player that looks committed to a team long term.
Funny how the Isles could have been possibly drafting Sam before us, but they won their last game. Thanks Isles!

Goalies are unpredictable, take a gamble on one with a late pick every few years. Who knows what can happen? Most of the good ones get picked in the mid-late rounds anyways.

It will be interesting to see where Demko goes. I could see him getting picked late in the first round, but if he's still available at 34, I wonder if the Flames will take him?
Because of Gaudreau and Arnold being at BC, I bet that very few teams have seen him play more than the Flames have.

There's no way Demko is passed until our Colorado pick is in play. If we want him, we'd have to pick him with CGY's 2nd.

I still think Reinhart is the best forward in this draft. But I also have no idea what I'm talking about, so yeah.

I never am a fan of taking goalies on stacked teams like Fucale last year and Demko this year. A good team can make a mediocre goalie look great. I'm not overly a fan of his footwork at all, which is usually a make or break thing for a goalie.

The two NA goalies that I am hoping we are targetting are Mason McDonald and Brandon Halverson. A pair of 6-4 goalies that are reasonably fast on their feet. McDonald is more rigid in his adherence to positioning, where Halverson is solid in most areas, just inexperienced due to being the backup on his team. MM is more of a late 2nd/early 3rd, where Halverson is probably a 4th/5th rounder (maybe with our last 3rd?)
