This morning on the 69-train a guy started conversing with a girl a few seats from me and he was so smooth he got her number. I was smiling too so it would have worked on me

I thought it was courageous of him to do it in front of about 15-20 people? It was new style train with the seating on the sides.

Have you guys done this before? It can't be that common cause I take this train all the time and never see it. Also, I've never been approached on the street or in the +15s or really in public.

Was he handsome? There's smooth and there's "this guy is hot" and that combination is hard to turn down for a lot of ladies. I think women like a guy with confidence but guys can get beat down a lot so you have to have the mentality that can handle rejection and move on to the next one without hesitation.

Yes I have, but not generally with the intention of getting numbers. Usually a conversation starts for some other reason (picking up something they dropped, or commenting on something they said, etc...), but it's pretty rare.

I have been in situations where I likely should have asked for a number and would have gotten it, but just didnt. Especially on the train, it such a short window in which to close.

One time I bet a girl her phone number that the Sharks would win a playoff game (i think they were playing the Blues) she agreed but the Sharks lost. She didn't give me her number. That kind of irked me. I would think if you make a bet for your number, you would probably give it either way, but I guess not. /coolstorybro.

What I hate is getting a fake number. I totally understand why a girl would do it to avoid an awkward situation, but it sucks going about your day feeling good about yourself, and then you call her up and it's the wrong number

I think it's quickly becoming a lost art form in the days of tinder and other online sites.. Way back before I met my wife (14 years ago) it was the only way to do it.
