How much $ could a guy like Larsen earn in the KHL? It would have to be a pretty significant upgrade to move to a place like that. The place sounds like the Fort Mac of Russia.

He doesn't actually look that horrible when you meet him in person. That's a brutal picture.

Making fun of a guy for how he looks is pretty lame anyway.

and.....the Oilers dealt Horcoff to the Stars for Larsen. Not that Horcoff was great, and his contract was bloatwear, but fun just the same.

I can see a head of scouting for a KHL-team park a guy in Edmonton. They're starting to become quite the source of 'talent'.

This is the KHL team payroll list from the start of this season ($1 USD = 33 roubles): http://en.khl.ru/documents/KHL_clubs_payrolls_2013.pdf
This team's entire payroll was $10.54 million US. Larsen wouldn't qualify for the KHL's "Russian NHL Star" salary exemption, so I can't see him making significantly more than he would get from the Oilers. The only issue would be the same as what made Gio choose to go over there, and that's if the Oilers aren't offering him a one-way contract, he'll get more guaranteed money in Russia.

Having watched Larsen in person, I can tell you the guy can skate like the wind. He is definitely one to keep an eye on and I would gladly take him on Calgary - after a year learning how to be a pro with Troy Ward et al.

So Hartikainen, Belov, Horak and now Larsen.
Oilers really are no good.

I'd bet money we see one of the defectors' of Canada's Siberia jerseys hitting Rexall ice next year. Wasn't there already a Belov one that did? I really don't know why any of their fans would buy any of those tweeners' jerseys in the first place. Same could be said for a good chunk of their roster as it stands now.

Wasn't it because of cap issues at the beginning of the season?

They needed the cap space to sign Bryz.
