I'm really starting to wonder if someone from the KHL was standing outside Eakins office after the exit interviews.

"How did your meeting go? Do you have a moment to talk about the lesser of two evils?"

Like they didn't already need/want Ekblad bad enough.

Wonder if this forces them to make a trade for someone like Myers or for the 1st overall. They need someone that can log minutes, Myers would obviously be the smarter choice.

The exodus is probably due to Eakins plan to re-implement the swarm defense next season and the defensemen probably wanting to play in a pro system instead.

There had to be. There literally isnt a 6th defenceman in the Oilers system that played NHL minutes last season.

That team is nearly at the point of unfixable without a tear down and rebuild. Even their uber picks are evolving into seriously one dimensional players, Edmonton fans crow about Hall and his 80 points and blah blah blah. But the bottom line is its fairly easy to rack up points if you don't do anything else on the ice. I also hear from Hall fans that he's that big effort guy that cares about winning and losing and at this point I don't see that, I see a guy that floats without the puck.

They picked a one dimensional sniper who has a shot annnnnddddd . . . . first overall and hes had one good month in the last two years and they expect that he's going to bounce back.

They have vanilla midgets up front, they have a brutal bottom 6, the worst type of AHL depth on the blue line in the NHL, and a goalie that started strong but became less then inspiring as time moved on. They have a brutal coach assistants that can't be fired because they rock the pajamas.

I will state that the Oilers are beyond broken, they're worse then the Islanders franchise and theres not much hope coming.

Bold moves, Mac-T isn't going to make bold moves because they over value their big 4 and nobody is going to pay that price.

right now in the executive suite, Lowe is telling Mac-T in no uncertain terms to go for McDavid because he'll save the Oilers heading into a new building.

The NHL should really dissolve that smoking crater 3 hours to the north. Preferably with a death star laser.

At this rate, he might be their top D in a year or two...

Every time I see a defenceman go to the KHL, I have to think Mark Giordano had a small role to play.

Which means a decision Gio made 7 years ago has helped screw the Oilers not once, but twice this season. So fitting to now be Calgary's captain

I was at the Ben Scrivens miracle game against the Sharks. I could not believe how obsessed the fans were with Gio and how laughable the Flames are because he is our best Dman.

This was with zero prompting. Last thing I needed was a foul breath mouth breather huffing and puffing all over me. So just sat back, listened and let them amuse me with their lack of hockey insight.

Even in the middle of a miracle game, Oiler fans just kept on talking about the Flames.

What would make it better is if Larson becomes a stud and returns to the NHL as a Flame.

Justin Schultz made a great choice afterall signing with the Oilers, by process of self-elimination, he is about to get his #1 D role he craves so much very soon.

Which is a pretty damning indictment in and of itself.

I'm pretty sure that there are 29 other teams that wouldnt take Justin Schultz as their #1 Dman for free.

Personally, I think "no good" is actually an improvement over the other 5 and should be their #1 d.

Maybe the Oilers should give former Flyers/Canucks defenseman Larry Goodenough a PTO?

Only 800km further north than Edmonton. Worth the trade off.
