Default Philip Larson leaves Oilers for KHL

Another defenceman has left the Edmonton Oilers for Russia's Kontinental Hockey League.

Philip Larsen, 24, has reportedly signed a one-year contract with the KHL's HC Yugra. The Danish blueliner, who was acquired by the Oilers last summer in the Shawn Horcoff trade, was due to become a restricted free agent.

While it is being discussed in the 'Edmonton is No Good' thread, additional threads are cheap and laughs at the Oilers expense are always good and hearty.

I did mention this in the other, aforementioned, thread. This is the list of the Oilers' signed defencemen for next season:

Ference - Marincin
Klefbom - Schultz (RFA)
Petry (RFA) - No Good

That wouldnt cut it in the AHL. ECHL? Maybe....

The Oilers are just simply no good, I reckon.

Edmonton's really gonna have to over-pay to get NHL defenders.

The situation is pretty grim when players willingly choose remote crapholes in Russia over Edmonton.

Calling it now, Nugent-Hopkins will be the next to jump ship.

Won't Darnell Nurse be playing with the Oilers next year?

As in Edmonton doesn't qualify as "remote craphole"?

With that line up, MacT should be on the phone with the Leafs to get Dion. Hopefully, it is for Edmonton's 1st rounder this year or next year

I'm guessing they're fans are still staying they don't need Smid, and that he's overrated.

Isn't this kind of the equivalent of Smith possibly going to the KHL?

What is Edmonton's top 6 defenseman? I don't even know anymore... I know Larson wasn't part of it, but I am just curious of who they have playing defense now.

Not in the least. Smith was probably tenth on our depth chart. Larson would probably have started.

Derek Smith = 29 years old UFA, 94 career NHL games.

Philip Larsen = 24 years old RFA, 125 career NHL games.

I think Larsen hits them a little harder.

That may be part of it, but I'm sure the fact that they're the worst managed team in sports is the main reason everyone is bailing on them.

Almost certainly, but more out of lack of other options as opposed to actual 'good reasons.'

Someone has to log minutes so it may as well be him.

It certainly does but the NHL fatality rate is significantly lower than the KHL's. I guess Edmonton is the 'X-Factor' in that equation.

I think Larsen hits them a little harder.
Especially when you consider who is left.

Simply by virtue of being one of the Oilers top defenders at this very moment. That's not to say that he should be in the lineup, though. I suspect he would be best served by a season or two in the AHL, but Edmonton won't let that happen.

I think rolling on the ice during practice would get me leaving. And if a young child knows that Eakins sucks too, I think there may be a problem with the Oilers' coaching, but that's just me.
