Boston still is probably his best bet to at least get to the Finals. The East is obviously much easier than the West, and really Boston would have made the Finals if they got past Montreal.

I don't think tip-ins should be discounted like that either. Just because it's not pretty, it is still a goal and if they were that easy to do, then everyone would be doing them all the time.
Having said that, at Iginla's age, you can never really count on reproducing 30 goals and 50+ points. His production could fall off the cliff at any time now. So from Boston's perspective, they might want to look at a younger option to fill the top line and take up that cap space. If Iginla wants to sign for cheap and possibly play less, then I am sure they will try to re-sign him. I just don't think they want to put all their eggs in that basket at this point.

All I will say is watching game 7 between the Habs and Bruins, Iginla was the only one who wanted to win that game for the B's. He was winning puck battles and shooting from everywhere.

i can see discounting the empty netter.....i would think that given his production this year, he may get a few decent offers with more base pay......but what do i know about signing hockey players....

Given how young their core is, I am inclined to disagree with your prediction.
The question for Iginla is whether he wants to take a deeply discounted salary to stay, or whether he thinks the roster holes Boston will be left with due to lack of cap space can be overcome.

I think shadow of himself is too strong of a term. He was after all nominated for the Norris yet again this season. But he's definitely the most important player on the team. As Chara goes, so do the Bruins. He struggled against the Habs with his injury and it certainly affected the team's performance. The key next season will be to keep him fully healthy for a long cup run. He only had 3 shots his last 3 games and that really affected the PP's effectiveness. IMO a healthy Chara pushes them up to at least round 3 and beyond.

I agree, except for the part where they have to go through the west to win the cup.
Right now Montreal and New York are just auditioning for an ass kicking. I cant see either of those teams beating Chicago or LA.

Iggy should sign with a team like St. Louis in more of a supporting role. No more first line responsibilities and the pressure and blame that comes with it. Just quietly contribute his goals for a few seasons and hope the team gels enough to get to the finals.

Yeah, I think if he wins a Cup, it will be more in a Dave Andrechuck fashion than a Ray Bourque.

Boston's not good for him. He should take a third liner role on Chicago or LA with less salary, if he would just take a pay cut no one would be complaining about his performance. Boston isn't winning the cup again with their core, they've got the size but not the speed. move west Iggy. Go win a cup with Darryl.

Iggy should be playing in LA.

Chara may be on the decline, but Dougie Hamilton is going to be amazing in a few years. He's only 20 years old and was already playing top pairing minutes with the team that won the Presidents trophy. They'll still be a very good team when Chara decides to retire.

Bruins were also without Seidenberg, a huge hole in their defensive depth. Most teams have trouble recovering from the loss of someone like that.

Maybe the Kings can get both Gaborik and Iginla and trade M. Richards to another team.

9 out of the Bruins top 11 scorers (excluding Iggy and Chara) are under 30 and have an average age of roughly 25. Plus their Vezina finalist goalie is only 26.
I don't see that team declining anytime soon.

Yeah the Bruins are pretty well positioned to be a perennial contender in the East for a long time as IMO the Penguins are may be the only other perennial contender and their window will close sooner. The rest of the conference is middle of the road teams mixed with really bad teams.

The Bruins aren't that slow. Chara, Iginla and Lucic are slow. The rest are average or better.
