Flames Goalies for 14 - 15 season
Havent seen a goalie specific thread. There is the starting lineup thread that has some FA goalies mentioned but...
So, who are the goalies you all want to see starting on the big club come the fall?
1 Ramo
2 ?
AHL
1 Ortio
2 ?

I think Jonas Gustavsson would be a good fit. He had a tough time adjusting to the NA game in his time with the Leafs, but since going to Detroit he's looked much better, and it's not like he was being propped up by the Detroit teams of old either.
I think he could push Ramo, and be a solid back-up and that would give Ortio a chance to play the bulk of games for the Baby Flames.
As for the back up in Addy, I'm sure they can find someone on an AHL deal who would be adequate.

I expect the Flames will sign UFA Jonas Hiller as a backup to Ramo.

Haven't really followed him but what about Olivier Roy for backup of the Heat?

Not a change that happens, another team will sign Hiller to be a starter somewhere in the league (Minnesota maybe). There's no way Hiller takes a backup role here, and probably will get 5+ a year somewhere else.
Greiss, Gustavsson, Emery, and maybe (although unlikely) Bryzgalov would be likely targets. Heck if the Sharks want to give us Niemi for practically free (if they find a replacement) else Treliving should get in on that.

Hoping for a Gustavson, Emery, Greiss kind of back up to really see what the flames have in Ramo.
That said there could be a glut of goalies available this summer. I could see the flames grabbing a bigger name if the price is cheap. If Miller is signed by the sharks, I could see Niemi being available on the cheap side.

We need to take on salary to reach the Cap floor, especially if Cammy decides to sign elsewhere. Also a short term deal would give Hiller a chance at gaining his confidence back and prove to the rest of the league he still has the skills to be a #1 tender.
As for Minny they have Backstrom.

I don't know how they'll make it to the floor. Gonna have to throw big money around. Should make for an interesting roster.
Around 8-9 million below the cap if we re-sign Colborne and Bouma. Only roster spots available are one D and one goalie unless one of Gaudreau, Baertschi, Reinhart and Granlund don't play in the NHL. That's to say nothing of Agostino, Arnold, Sieloff, Klimchuk, Poirier, etc. There's no roster spots for kids to move to, but we can't get rid of high priced vets to move the kids in. That's why I think we sign Cammaleri to 7-8M for one or two years (if he'll sign). He fits in, good with the kids and we need somewhere to dump money
FORWARDS

Who cares about cheap? If anything we need to drop some decent coin on a UFA tender.. which may open up some options for us.

most importantly we need someone that actually has a chance at starting. Ramo's quick progress can in part be attributed to the fact that he had to compete with Berra for a spot every time he started. We need another goalie not used to the NHL that could potentially replace Ramo to push him to his potential. Reclamation projects or backups like Joey Mac won't do us any good, we should be going ahead with Ramo as #1 and someone else who is still developing as well.

I would sign Ray Emery, mostly because he absolutley destroys the Flames every time he plays us

Have we forgotten about a possible Cam Ward experiment? Can definitely step in as #1, would be a great backup, and we can take the cap hit. Assuming Carolina wants to get rid of him, I say we could be in the ballpark.

Gustavsson is a great choice for backup. Like Burke, I want Ortio to be playing not sitting, and I feel he is one of those goalies who thrives by playing a lot.
Most of all, I can't wait for Gilles comes in after his college final (hopefully) year... I think he has tremendous potential and will be an important piece for the Flames future.

There aren't many teams in the league that need Hiller less than Minnesota. Kuemper is ready to be the starter, Backstrom and Harding are kicking around.

The RFAs are going to make more money than you have there. You'll also have more than 1 guy in press box each night.

One option is to extend Gio at 6.5 or so per. Will bring his cap hit up a bit, and well deserved.
Same thing with Brodie. Extend him at 3.5, and Backlund at 2.5. Together, they should bring us 3 mln closer to the floor.

i actually hope that they do not sign any of the guys named above, let's develop the guys we have so they are battle ready as the team improves.
i conceed, that the flames may have to make some short term deals for cap reasons
