i live in new brighton and work across from chinook Mall - my garmin says it is 17.6kms.......best part of the ride is from douglasdale to Southland/Deerfoot as it is along the river thru quarry park.....I hate navigating the southland/deerfoot area as there are too many of those metal beasts and traffic lights that slow me down.
In someways I miss riding all the way to downtown - as the majority of the ride is on the path......and there are few traffic lights to deal with.

I live in Cranston and work on MacLeod and 50th Ave. so I know your ride. Have you thought about coming down into Fish Creek and coming up behind the Ranche? That way you have nice pathway all the way to Acadia/Canyon Meadows. Acadia is a nice wide bike friendly road.

^ Coys, I looked at that, but as far as I know, the only two points I can currently cross the river are 22X or Carburn PArk (Deerfoot and Southland).
Last time I rode by it, the bridge across the river by MacKenzie Meadows was still clsoed due tot eh footing being wiped out by the flood.

The lack of bridges has really limited the options for us dirty southies for getting over to Macleod or downtown.

ahhh of course. That's too bad. I used to live in Copperfield and that was my old route to work. I preferred the roads the pathways along the river with all the pedestrians and their dogs.

just wanted to give a bit of a plug to my LBS (Cyclepath on MacLeod) - I recently ordered a new Race Face Respond crankset from Chain Reaction (set came with a new bottom bracket) - last night I went to install the cranks only on my rig (Rocky Mtn altitide 730) and the cranks did not fit in the current BB. Without even looking, I popped out the current BB and then to my horror, I discovered that my new BB was too small for my frame.
After some (after teh fact) research, I discovered that my bike had some new "standard" BB. Ugh!!! I looed on line at Jenson and the Race Face BB was $60, MEC was $50 and $46 at my LBS - plus I had a $25 store credit there......to quote Borat "Very Nice".......
Of course on my way out, I decided to pick up some new rubber - felt a little stunned at seeing Nobby Nic's were $100 - wound up goign with a more budget friendly Kenda Nevagal.......

Slightly OT, but I still LOL when I think of your story where some girl on a Walmart mountain bike with a squeaky crank wearing jeans, blew past you on Macleod Trail when you were on your road bike.

Does anyone know the condition of the highwood pass or how one could find out when its rideable? Some friends and I are thinking of doing it before its opened to traffic and depending on certain members' fitness levels we may start either in longview or at the closure and ride to the pass and back.

Maybe this is better in the gear grinder, but the cost of wheels...my rear wheel is pretty much done...it's a 6 year old bike so I get it. Am I really spending a couple hundred dollars for a rear wheel? (The bike in question is a Trek 7.3 FX, had been a great commuter bike and would love to have it for that for a while longer, but not happy with the price it will cost me.)

Hahhaha.... oh man there are some rough sellers on pinkbike and kijiji for bikes. I am searching and placing offers on used 29ers, hybrids, and cyclocross bikes under $1000. I'll ask the standard questions about wear and tear, and how many owners, etc. and I get nothin but smartass comments back

What's wrong with it? Only replace the part that needs replacing like the rim, etc. Should be cheap/affordable.

I have pinged off a couple spokes this spring...got told that the wheel is on it's last legs last fall, and don't want to put any more money into it.

The organizers of the Highwood Gran Fondo changed their route from Longview/Stoney Nakota to Stoney Nakota/Stoney Nakota return. Apparently there is still some road damage on the Longview side which hasn't been paved yet. It's probably rideable bust you might me riding some sections on gravel.

my building has a common area gym/shower/change facility - there are signs up saying not to leave towels as they will be removed and tossed away; however, historically if your towel was neatly hung up, they would leave it alone.....
rode in this morning, went to show and my towel was gone - had to dry off using the hair dryer and the long sleeve shirt I was wearing.......i was more annoyed given that i had gone to MEC to buy a micorfiber camping towel. I managed to recover my twoel and will try and discreetly hand it up in my cube........hopefully it odes not rain before getting hme this afternoon

Taking my dad to buy a new bike on Wednesday. What's the hot bike these days? He'll likely be wanting something along the lines of a crossover and hybrid or whatever they're called. $100-$1500 price range.
Thanks
