I don't think Spieth is making many fans with his body language and reactions.

Well that sucks but Bubba was solid today.
Usually it would take more than that to win the Masters but it seemed everyone around the top of the leaderboard were just okay today.
After that chip in early on I thought it may be Speith's day but a few poor choice to go at the pin when a safe shot would have been the smart play seemed to do him in which isn't too surprising given his age and the environment.

Why? Not much different than the most popular golfer of all time.

He's 20. Hopefully people give him the benefit of the doubt.

Delaet, Weir, and eight others tied for 2nd going into the weekend at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, as they are only 2 strokes back of the leader. Sure is nice to see Weir playing some good golf again.

Weir has all but secured his PGA Card for the 2015 season with his second place finish this afternoon.
Delaet on the other hand is in a really bad place with his putting. Its a very low percentage of guys who succeed when they mess around with weird putters.

I wouldn't guarantee Weir a card just yet - but certainly if his confidence stays up he'll not only get his card but get into a few rounds of the Fed Ex cup.
DeLaet - his issue this week was his irons. He was hitting fairways but couldn't seem to hit his approach from 150 yards inside 10 feet. Or 20 feet it seemed.
I really want to see Ames hit the Champions Tour (because I quickly tire of Kenny Perry's giant head winning everything), but he wants to duke it out on the PGA Tour. I can only think this is due to a sponsor arrangement, because his game would transfer so well to the Champions Tour that I think he'd run away and hide with an awful lot of money this year.

During the 2014 season, Weir has made the cut in only six of 18 starts and earned less than $100,000. But his weekend performance has put him inside the top 125 on the money list.
Weir is using his final exemption, based on PGA Tour career earnings, in 2014. Sunday’s breakthrough should enable him to play a full schedule next season.

I believe top 125 in money or fedex points gets you status for next year. He is 71st and 87th in those categories respectively, and they are almost 3/4 through the season. He's almost assured of status, I woiuld say.

So Adam Scott becomes the world #1 today, without playing on the weekend.

The record books will forever show Mike Weir finishing in second place on Sunday, but the record books don't understand that not all close calls are created equal.
This was a second place from a player who hadn’t finished that high in five years.
This was a second place from a player who hadn’t broken 70 since January.
This was a second place from a player who hadn’t yet considered what he would do after this season, when his final year-long PGA Tour exemption expired.
Weir won’t have to worry about that now. His runner-up finish to Brendon Todd at the HP Byron Nelson Championship netted $745,200 – enough for the 44-year-old past Masters champion to clinch his card for another year.
“I was definitely determined to try to win today, but I can feel good about the way I handled things out there and the way I played,” he said after a final-round 67. “Just wasn't meant to be, but I'm happy with today.”

you're right. I just checked the last few years and 125 on the money list was around $650,000. I thought it was closer to $900.
(In 2010 125 was $786, but the last few years it has been less).
Good for Mike.

There will be funny things going on with those past years. Somewhere along the line, the playoffs stopped counting towards the official money standings for exemptions. And they started the wrap around season this year, so last year would have been a short season with no fall series counted.
Making it even more likely for Mike, the official status is now given to money standings after the Wyndham (playoffs not included). With the wrap around season meaning the fall events have already been played and counted, and the Wyndham just 3 months away, some pretty crazy stuff would have to happen to knock him out.

I am hoping he can get a few more top tens, and even a win this year to really cement his status.

Tiger Woods talks about his back pain and surgery.....
Quote:
Woods said Monday his back injury became so debilitating this year it caused him to doubt his ability to play golf again.
''Forget about playing golf at the highest level. I couldn't get out of bed,'' Woods said. ''I was certainly doubtful at that point. What's it going to feel like? Am I going to be pain free? Am I going to be able to actually do this again, where I can to get out of bed, and go out there and play with my kids and play golf? All those things were up in the air.''
Woods said the doubt was erased after microdiscectomy surgery March 31. He said the procedure, which relieved pain from a pinched nerve, provided immediate relief, although he said there's still ''no timetable'' for his return to golf - or even for taking a full swing. As of now, he remains limited to chipping and putting.
|
Quote:
''I would like to, as all athletes, go out on my own terms,'' Woods said. ''And ultimately I want to continue playing at an elite level as long as I deem I want to do it. For some guys it's in their 60s and 70s, and other guys it's in their 40s and 50s.
''But prior to the surgery, I didn't think I would have much of a playing career if I felt like this. ... Now that I've had the procedure, I'm excited about what the prospects hold, and if I'm able to feel this way, I'm excited about my career. I'm able to do what I want to do for as long as I want to.''

Mcilroy winning the BMW PGA Championship (biggest euro tour event) immediately after dumping the 'ol ball and chain is one of the funnier things to happen in golf in a long time. Mcilroy hasn't been the same since he got together with her.

Neither has she, she was #1.
Maybe put a few $$$ on her this week to win the French Open. She'll take out her frustrations on a tennis ball.
