I dropped my pal and my kids off, parked in the dirt half a click down the road and walked in. This was after checking the insane lineup for the buses. Had a great time. I think every Ferrari in town was there.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to post a tunnel drive video....this one is not quite what I was hoping for (too much music, not enough cool reverberating car sounds), but hopefully there's more to come.
Because it currently doesn't do it, a lot of people in the coming weeks are not going to realize that the primary purpose of the Airport Tunnel is to (once the airport authority decides to stop being dumb) connect Deerfoot Trail to Stoney Trail. In doing so, it will provide much needed relief to McKnight Blvd. The airport authority's silliness on this matter also means that, in the interim, CHB has to play a bigger role than is ultimately intended.
Clarify this for me?
Why does the airport authority get to dictate that?
I was the first car over the new west-south flyover at Deerfoot/22X. It doesn't sound that exciting, but there's something really cool about being the first to use a piece of infrastructure that costs a third of a billion dollars.

Airport calls the shots because it's their land.
They do not want Airport Trail connecting Deerfoot through to Stoney until the city builds interchanges at the intersections along Airport Trail, reason being that there will be too much congestion around the airport. So, the tunnel now ends at 36 St so you've got to go up to CHB to get over to Metis. Not ideal, but it will be fixed eventually... and of course building the tunnel after the fact would be far more expensive so this interim solution is definitely the right decision.

I've heard that a local Aventador owner and an R8 V10 will be through at some point this week, hopefully someone has a decent recording device.
The tunnel is camera'ed up I believe for security purposes..... isn't this going to be easy for the police to nab wannabe tunnel drive video makers?
Not sure if it's CPS watching camera feeds though. More for safety/security as you say... I'm sure Transport Canada and all those guys would have something to say about this as it goes under an active runway.
Of course standing in the tunnel would be a bad idea under any circumstance. Nowhere to really stand safely, it looks like.
As a southerner, how does this tunnel help me out? This is a serious question. Would I use this getting to or out of the airport? Never hit the NE otherwise.

If deerfoot is backed up instead of taking stony all the way around you take Stony to Mets? and cut a bunch of time off. Probably $20 less cab fair if deerfoot is messed up. Otherwise nothing.
I am going to go and be the most massive doosh later tonight. My straight piped Vulcan 1500 is going through that tunnel in 2 gear.
And video it.
The CP tears will be delicious.
Guys who like engines are understandable. That's not nearly as dooshy as the guy who creeps through the playground zone in front of my house, and then un-f'n-leashes it at the end. Had my front window open the other day, and my daughter was sitting there watching cartoons, and that a-hole did his small dick move, and it scared the crap out of her. She started crying FFS.
I would love to throw a rock at his face and cause him to bail.
